Normally we use a lockdown page to hide all the setting but in this case we will not.

On a couple of these devices we are not using any Lockdown page
Desired Outcome:
Do not want the user's to access Android Settings
Want Admin to be able to use the Android Settings (in case something needs to be changed in settings)

On first try I went to Application Run Control in the Profile and blacklist
Device Settings %settings% which removes the gear all-together

However now Admins cannot access the device settings because the gear is gone

How can I approach this: want the admins to access device settings but users not access device settings

One other note: when I blacklist list, is it stopping any of the internals from working properly? or is it just hiding the Icon??

HI Larry,

create a Profile -> Configurations -> APPLICATION RUN CONTROL -> add next to "Blacklisted Applications

" at the + -> Name:  DeviceSettings -> Application Name : %settings% -> Bundel Identifyer : %settings%.
Assign it to a test Device and check if the "Settings" Icon will be not longer Visible in the User Mode.

Tested with Version 15.3.3

Hello Marcus,

I have done this and it indeed removed the "settings" Icon but how the heck can we Admin's get to the Setting's icon now, i mean our users are not "logging" in to the device with any user account

Also does this procedure interfere with any of the working of the settings app, it hides the icon from view but does it reduce it's functionality

thanks

Hi Larry,

did you have tried it when you open the Web Remote session.

The Klick on "Enter Administrator Mode" on?

we have been using the (legacy) remove for some reason

Do i need "web-based" to get the the Admin function you described, if so it looks like it cost $$ but not sure

Hi Larry,

you must install "Soti Assist" on your Server.

It starts with a 30 Days "test" License then it expire.

But you are able to use the Remote functions with out any extra costs.

We do it the Same way ;)

Hello,

I think blacklisting settings app is not a good idea. You may have some issues with apps.

I'd rather use a Feature Control configuration to limit what users are allowed in device settings, like uninstall apps, create accounts, etc.

Hello Edgar,

so far as i know when you use it the below way the Icon will be only "blanked out" nothing more.

Edgar had an interesting comment, so far with settings being blacklisted we have had no issues

will continue to test

Hi Larry,

Thank you for your post on SOTI Central.

Once you blacklist Settings, none of the users can access it including Administrator even the device is not in Lockdown. As Edgar Gomez mentioned, there might be some issues in the future when the applications required access to Settings.

We would like to recommend you to apply the Lockdown and add Settings Manager (if required) and control access items for there.

Kind Regards,
