Admin Mode

Hello,

I'm having trouble entering admin mode on most of my devices. I have a lock down profile applied and when I go to enter admin mode, MobiControl with just show a prompt that says "Switching to admin mode" and will never exit. The only way I can get out of lock down mode is by sending commands from the web console. However, I would like to be able to do this from the device, because sometimes I need to make changes on the fly and don't always have a computer with me. Has anyone came across this issue before? If so, how did you fix it? I have listed my MobiControl version and device's information below.

MobiControl Version: 15.3.0.6713

Device Information

  • Model: Zebra VC80x
  • Operating System: Android 8.0.1
  • Build: 02-32-04.00-OG-U20-STD (GMS)
  • MobiControl Agent Version: 14.5.4 Build 1016 (Android Enterprise)
  • Plugin Version: 1.6.0.102
  • Mode: Work Managed Device (Device Owner)

MobiControl has all permissions enabled.

By whch way on your device did you try to enter the device administrator mode and get the "Switching to admin mode" message on your device screen?

Do you have similar problem with device of other brand/model/firmware-version enrolled onto your MobiControl server?

           So the devices have a lock down profile applied and I'm trying to enter admin mode from the device itself. I do this by              holding the back button then selecting "Administrator" then I enter the admin password. That's as far as I can get,            because it will just sit there and show "Switching to admin mode".

          Yes, we have noticed it with other Zebra models like the TC72, TC70, TC55, & MC9300. Which is a mixture of different              firmware version.

Really have same problem for so many different Zebra device models?  With the same or different device agent version/build number?

To check if this is a GUI related issue for Zebra firmware, maybe you can try including MobiControl device agent as one of the lockdown menu item, and trying to enter device-administrator mode by tapping on the green "User" text for the "Agent Mode" item in the Device tab of Device Configuration page.  Let see if you still get stuck after entering the device-administartor password.

Hello,

I have the same problem with the agent in version greater than 14.4.6.1001 on the Zebra MC930B. Tested on 14.5.5.1023 and 15.0.0.1110. Manual switch to administrator mode from Zebra does not work. Only works with web gui.

it's not impossible to be successful, but you have to wait a few minutes, before the message disappears... but this is not acceptable. Does someone see a solution?

As I don't have similar hardware as yours to do any tests,  the following is just my educated guess.

With your reported symptom, I was wondering whether your problem is related to low-power mode  (e.g. Doze mode)  on your device or on particular app including MobiControl device agent.  Can you try turning off such low-power mode(s) and see if there is any improvement?

I faced the same issue. I realized that you can enter the admin mode without problems when the device does not have access to the MobiControl server or if the network has no restrictions. Have you found a solution to the problem?

I met the same issue with a Honeywell EDA-70 / Android 7

While it works for the same model under Android 8 and 10... the long click on the PREVIOUS button didn't work.

I solved the problem by accident by sliding my finger upwards from the Home button and tada ! the switching menu "ADMIN/USER" apeared

And to switch from ADMIN to USER mode, in the KIOSK app, clic on menu => TERMINAL SETTINGS / TERMINAL tab / in the bottom, long-click on ADMINISTRATOR mode and this will activate USER mode.
