Is there a way to prevent location tracking for installed apps in MobiControl without disabling GPS altogether? I am concerned with location tracking by installed apps and how I can prevent it. The customer uses IOS only.

Hi Thorsten,

Thank you for posting on SOTI Pulse.

We have an option under Managed App Configuration in the application policy that allows us to send specific configurations to an app during its installation.

To proceed further, could you please confirm the iOS version currently running on your device?

Hi, thank you for answering my question! The customer uses iPads with the latest operating system versions (currently iPadOS 18.5).

Dear @Thorsten Konrad

To prevent location tracking on Apple devices managed by SOTI MobiControl, you must disable the Location Services profile in the SOTI MobiControl console and configure an iOS Restrictions profile with the Location Services setting set to "Don't Allow Changes". After applying these settings, the end-user cannot disable Location Services on the device, preventing unauthorized tracking.

For the SOTI MobiControl Administrator

  1. Disable the Location Services Profile: In the SOTI MobiControl console, navigate to the device policies and disable or delete any existing Location Services profiles that allow tracking.
  1. Create a Restrictions Profile: Create a new Restrictions profile for iOS devices.
  1. Configure Location Services Settings:
    • Go to the Content & Privacy Restrictions section within the Restrictions profile.
    • Enable Location Services and set the option to "Don't Allow Changes" to prevent the end-user from turning it off.

For the End-User

  1. 1. Do Nothing:

Once the administrator applies the Restrictions profile, the Location Services setting will be locked on the device.

  1. 2. Verify Settings (Optional):
    • Open Settings on your iPhone.
    • Select Screen Time and then Content & Privacy Restrictions.
    • Tap on Location Services. You will see that the option to change this setting is disabled.

This method prevents both the end-user and the MobiControl administrator from changing the Location Services setting after the profile is applied.
