Remote control desktop plugin: change default video color quality settings (too much traffic in highest color)

Is there a way to change the default video color quality settings in the desktop remote control plugin of MobiControl?

Whenever I start a new session, it always defaults to "Highest Color (32-bit)".

This is unfortunate because many of our customers' units connect on cellular, have tariffs billable to the MB, and a short remote session with the highest color quality is known to take up dozens of MBs of traffic.

Besides, I have the impression that the video on the remote control plugin initializes more slowly because it starts with he highest quality. Sometimes all you need is to retrieve some files, kill/restart processes, send scripts, etc., so the video streaming is not always needed.

I'd like to change it to "4 Shade Grayscale" by default. I don't find this in the "Edit" settings, although there are other settings which are persistent, such as "File Extension Mapping", which is a neat way to have a preferred text editor to open up device logs and other text files.

So maybe this would be a feature request?

Would appreciate any help.

If you use classical (i.e. non html5) remote control that requires installing a remote plug-in,  you can choose lower color quality and that setting is stored locally so that subsequent remote control session(s) all start with the configured colour quality.  In fact, all other settings (e.g. sizes of different windows/tools, toolbars/buttons, etc.) are also stored locally and persist between remote control sessions.

html5 remote control sessions do not seem to have this feature at the moment.

Hi Chan, thanks for the input.

Have explore a bit more the issue here. For the classical remote control service (i.e. using the plugin) the color quality setting does seem to be preserved locally, but just if the new remote control session (using the plugin) is initiated for the same device. This remains true after logging off from the web-console and logging back in. Haven't tried yet if the same remains true after re-starting the browser and/or clearing its cache -- but since this remote control service is a Windows app on its own, the browser's cache shouldn't have much influence, I'm guessing.

The problem is with different devices, the color quality is by default on "highest color".

In a device estate of thousands of devices, pretty much every second remote control session is done on a new device, so the settings' persistence behavior isn't very useful.

This is a on-premises instance on v13.3.0.3690.

Hi Rui,

The responses you have received are correct, that desktop remote control plugin of MobiControl will keep the session settings for subsequent sessions but will return to the default with any new remote session.

As you have already guessed, you can create a feature request and have this feature considered for future releases.
