Remote Control options in MobiControl 14.3

I have just upgraded to MobiControl 14.3 in our Dev environment and I have question about the prompt that appears when using the Remote Control functionality.

Currently our 13.4 users use a combination of the Remote Control and Remote Control (HTML5) for users who do not wish to download the browser plugin.

In the 14.3 world, we are referring to the downloadable plugin as a legacy app and if the web-based option is used, SOTI Assist needs to be installed as a prerequisite.

Questions:

1) Can someone from SOTI confirm if the downloadable plugin is going to be phased out? If so, any ETA on when this will happen?

2) For web-based access, is there any option to continue using this without the SOTI Assist installation?

3) For web-based access, what does this mean for existing/future device skins?

HI Gerald

There is no immediate ETA for phasing out the downloadable RC plugin. Plugin will continue to be supported as long as it is needed.

It is true that for web-based RC useage you need to install SOTI Assist (purchase of SOTI Assist license is not mandatory).

The same skins are supported in both RCs and there should not be any difference.

Thanks

Since I'm not from Soti, I skip your first question.

For (2), the answer is no.  You need Soti Assist to be properly installed to use web-based remote control session.

For (3), skins continue to be used (e.g. click to emulate pressing of hardware keys) and shown in web-based remote control session if they are available.  However, for devices with RC API active but no available skin, the basic hardware keys (home, back, volume +/-, etc.) can still be accessed in a predefined button bar in a web-based RC session.

Thanks,

In regards the SOTI Assist installation, I had to open a new case as the installation ended in a rollback. Can someone from SOTI please contact me as soon as possible to discuss options.

Rollback in this case was caused by DB permissions issue, however the app did not indicate what the issue was.

We have an active case open with SOTI for some outstanding questions around the install. Thanks to all for the feedback.
