Same scanner profile for all android scanner but with different URLs linked in soti surf

Hi,

sorry for the bad title.
Can I use the same scanner profile for all my Zebra MC3300X, but with different applications running depending on which scanner it is. I have them sorted per application in different organizational units.
I have soti surf running on all of them and different web applications.
I don't want to give the user the option to choose which web application to start. I find it not practical to have 6 profiles just for different web links we use on the scanners, but with the same basic configuration
I have the newest version of Mobicontrol running and also the newest Android Enterprise agent.
Are there best practices I'm missing or maybe a setting i can use for this?

In any case, thanks for reading and your help
Best Regards
Florian

Hi Florian,

Assuming you have six groups of Zebra MC3300X running corresponding six different web apps with different URL's on Soti Surf browser, you can define a custom-attribute of "String" type (say with name "webappurl", and the corresponding custom-attribute macro will be %CustomAttr:webappurl% ) to be included in a dynamic URL in the single common Soti Surf profile payload shared by all six groups of devices.  See the related online manual page at https://soti.net/mc/help/v15.6/en/console/data/sotisurf/dynamic_url.htm

The custom-attribute value can be set either interactively one by one at the device-level, or in bulk with CSV file import, or at device-group-level if the six groups of devices have already been assigned systematically into six disjoint MobiControl device-groups.

I'll get right on testing, thanks!

For some reason, the weburl doesn't use the custom attribute.
I've added the attribute in the global settings tab and gave it a value(scanner_1005) in my device group.
Added the weburl like this https://sap/%CustomAttr:saplink%
It doesn't load the weburl with the value of the attribute.

Edit: Screenshot attached.
Edit2:changed screenshot

I've also tried to just use the customattribut but that also doesn't work

What the the version and build numbers of your Soti Surf app and Mobicontrol server?

Have you enabled the option for the custom-attribute value to be sent/propagated to targeted device?  To confirm that the value is available on the device, you can use send script action to execute test script such as

    log -i "CA value = %CustomAttr:yourCA%"

to see if the correct value get displayed in the device log tab in the web-console.

Hi Raymond
I'm using Version: 15.6.1.1048
and soti Surf 15.6.0 Build 7
doesn't seem to be getting the value.

EDIT: Send to Device is active

Hi Florian,

Thanks for posting on SOTI Pulse and thanks Raymond for responding to the post.

I would suggest putting all URLs in one profile and assign to the device, we can also take into consideration that 6 profiles are not a lot that causes any issue with the device or server.

Thank you.

Kind regards,
