Mobicontrol agent repeatedly installing single app when it's already installed

Solved

As part of my demo/evaluation of Mobicontrol, I setup the base required apps for our company for each device type and enrolled a macOS and a Windows device.

Since then, on the Mac, several times a day one of the required base apps (Zoom) get's (re)installed. None of the other required apps have shown any indication of this same behavior on either device.

On a whim, I tried removing my existing install of the app and let Mobicontrol reinstall it. However, it unfortunately continues to install the app several times a day.

Has anyone experienced a similar issue, or have advice as to where I could look to determine why this is repeatedly being installed. I tried checking the Mobicontrol logs that are available, but I couldn't find any telling information.

It seems I'm unable to edit my post to add this:

I can confirm now that Mobicontrol is not installing just this one app on my Mac repeatedly, it's doing it with all other required apps in the assigned policy. Is the default behavior to install required apps at every check-in, instead of verifying whether they're installed first?

Hello Topher,

The behavior that you are experiencing is usually the result of incorrect application metadata supplied in the App Policy.

Kindly ensure that 'Version' & 'Bundle Identifier' is supplied with correct values in App Policy. You can check for the correct values under the Applications tab of the device to which the App Policy is assigned.  You can navigate to the Device Details screen by clicking the device name and then clicking the 'Applications' tab. As shown in the attachment below.

Thanks for your reply. In this case, I got the metadata directly from /Applications/[Application.app] > Show Package Content > Info.plist. So I know the bundle ID is correct. I will verify the version of installed by the installer PKG.

Also, is it possible to report your img linked from a site like imgur? i'm unable to view the attachment.

Thanks I think that got it!

I went back and looked at Zoom in Finder and at its Info.plist, and noticed in both the versions were displayed differently.

In Finder the version was shown as "X.XX.X (XXXX)", in the Info.plist it was given as "X.XX.X", so I removed Zoom, added it back and formatted the version as "X.XX.X.XXXX" (just moved the "(XXXX)" out of parenthesis and directly into the version string.)

I haven't seen one notification or dialogue box indicating the app was reinstalled yet.
