Accessing .PDF from Intranet Sharepoint

Has anyone setup their Android devices to be able to download .PDF files from their intranet SharePoint site?  When I try to navigate using SOTI Surf, I'm presented with a log in.  I'm able to log into the intranet sharepoint site and navigate.  However, when I try to click a link that invokes downloading a .PDF; I have a viewer installed to open and view, I receive a message that says, "Download Failed".  Has anyone ran into this issue and if so, how do you remedy this?  I don't have SOTI ERG or HUB installed.  Any help would be tremendously appreciated.

Thank you,

Trav

Hi Trav,

Do you have a policy configured in the SOTI Surf settings to disable Downloading of Files?  I have added a screenshot of where this would be configured to show you how to re-enable this feature, if so.

Hi,

I have looked at these settings and the check box isn't ticked :(  I appreciate your suggestion and reply.

Hi Trav,

What Version of MobiControl are you using?   and what version of Soti Surf was deployed to your devices?

Hi,

The version of SOTI we have installed on our server is 13.3.0.3411 and the client installed on the devices is 13.3.2.1021 (ELM).

Thank you for your reply,

Trav

Hi,

Do you think using the non-ELM agent will give me different results?

Thank you,

Perhaps, I just needed to confirm your version as this seemed to be a know issue that was identified in version 13.3.0.3965 - 13.4.307 and a fix was supplied in version 14.1.0.

Just be aware, version 14 we have made changes to the main page and some of the functionality such as search.

Here is a link to the release information hopefully its listed there but I have reviewed the internal bug and can confirm the bug has been closed as this has been resolved.

Do you experience the same problem with browsers other than Soti Surf?   I would test that if I were you, to check whether or not the problem stem from Soti Surf.

Hi Chan,

Thank you for your input as well.  I can definitely use Chrome to browse and things work perfectly.  However, using Surf was the preferred method as I can control all sites they can access via Web Filtering.  We do have a proxy I can apply to the WiFi settings but it's a bit more open that the dept would like.  If I could find out a way to restrict access to the address bar in Chrome so they cannot manually put in a URL, then using Chrome would be great!

Thank you,

Trav

Hi Trav,

I don't know whether your devices run in Kiosk/lock-down mode and/or application run control to exclude browser(s) other than the one of your choice.  If so, you can consider the following if you don't want to wait for any future fix(es) for Soti Surf:

1. If you are using Samsung Android+, you can use firewall payload to limit allowable/disallowable site and port for any target application.

2. If you are using any of the hundreds of brands of devices running Android Enterprise (preferably in managed-device mode),  you can consider using  Browser Proxy payload for Chrome.

Hi Trav

I've just noticed that the latest version of Soti Surf (14.1.0 Build 58) has fix related to pdf file opening issue (MCMR-13306).  You might just check if the Soti Surf you are using is this latest version.

Hi again,

I just installed the newest version of SOTI Surf on a new tablet and I can log into our SharePoint intranet based site but when downloading PDFs, I still received, Downloading... Download Failed.  I was able to finally get SOTI Hub configured so this will most likely be the route we go.  I don't get to deal with SOTI on an everyday basis so my time to tinker is quite limited.  I really appreciate everyone's suggestions.

Thank you,

Trav

Hi Trav.

I see this is from two years ago, but I'm running into the same issue.  By chance, did you have a resolution to this? Or even a work around?  I'm looking into Soti Hub now.

Thanks!
