IOS DEP Problem - Connected to multiple virtual MDM servers

Hi,

This is current situation:

- 1 Deployment Server in SOTI

- 1 Apple DEP Account

- 3 MDM servers in the Apple DEP Account

- 1400 Devices (from multiple customers) in the 1 (and only) Deployment server.

- The Deployment server is connected to 1st made MDM server in the DEP Account

What I want to accomplish, I don't want to open more than 1 Deployment Server, but I do want to connect multiple MDM virtual to that Deployment server and manage all my customer's devices. Is this possible?

If not, when will it be made possible, since Airwatch is offering this already?

Hi Yannick,

MobiControl does not support configuration of and connection to multiple virtual MDM (DEP) servers.  I highly recommend you to reach out to your Account Manager / Enterprise Mobility Consultant to create a Feature Request for this.

It seems that you have 1400 DEP devices managed with 1 Soti deployment server, and there are two other MDM servers from other MDM vendor(s) configured in the DEP account.

What do you mean by "connect multiple MDM virtual"?

Could you pinpoint any URL link or Airwatch documentation with details about what you said they are offering?

I did a quick search over the web with  "Airwatch virtual MDM server ", and can found item mentioning about "Virtual MDM server container" for Airwatch.   If this is what you meant by "connected to multiple virtual MDM servers", then it's true that MobiControl currently does not support this.

However, if you just want many tens of parallel MDM administrator web-console sessions to interactively administer many devices concurrently , and load-sharing among multiple management server (MS) modules running on more than one Microsoft Server Operating System  instances, then MobiControl currently support this.    However, if the required actions require heavy processing power to serve all the parallel MS sessions efficiently,  then your single deployment server (DS)  also needs to be upgraded to an high-availability system with multiple DS's and hardware load-balancer.   Please also note that Soti only charges license(s) for extra DS, but not for extra MS.

This is what I am trying to accomplish. In my Apple DEP account you can create multiple virtual MDM servers. But only one of them is connected to my mobicontrol server. This is a screenshot of my global settings

I'd like to a have soti connect with more than the one, which it is already connected to, virtual MDM server on my DEP account. Without having to setup multiple Deployment servers.(if that is even the answer)

Like I said, Airwatch does support to connect their environment to multiple virtual MDM servers on my DEP account

Hi Yannick,

I start to understand a little bit clearer what you ask for.  I'm not from Soti, and here are my personal feedbacks:

- Apple's DEP portal allow multiple virtual MDM server instances to be configure to allow different devices of a single company to be managed by more than one MDM servers of same/different brand(s).  If your 1400 devices are from different INTERNAL customers of your company and your have just one MDM server from any vendor (Soti, Airwatch, etc.), it does not make sense to add multiple virtual MDM server entries in the same DEP account (This is not recommended, as stated in official v9.2 documentation from Airwatch I've found).  In Soti, you just need one virtual MDM server entry, and different devices can be assigned to use different iOS add-devices rules to configure different DEP profile options and other MDM policies to be deployed.

- If the 1400 devices are owned by different companies, then each company should set up its own DEP account with Apple.  If your company provides one MDM server to serve all these multiple companies,  then you can bind the virtual MDM server entry of DEP account of each company to different device group in Airwatch.  As far as I know, MobiControl currently does not support this.

- If the 1400 devices are owned by different companies, and they do not have any DEP account set up, but used your company DEP account and MDM server to manage their devices, the situation is a bit complicated. It's true that Airwatch can support this, but this does not seem to fit the DEP usage model defined by Apple, and there might be legal consequences and technical difficulties related to privacy, company assets (e.g VPP/B2B apps ownership & payment) and technical support.
