Is there a way to start / force updates from Managed Play Store

Hi all,  I am trying to find a way to start / persuade applications updates to start from the Google Play (Managed Play Store).  Has anyone tried something similar?

The reason for trying to do this is that I have customers that don't have cellular data but have WiFi facilities when in their offices and updates are set to over Wi-Fi only.

Any thoughts?

Hi John,

I have a couple of managed instances doing a method similar. There are some pre-requisites for this to work:

  • A managed Google Play Account is bound to the MobiControl instance
  • If you require the required application to update without prompt to the latest version, you must set the Approval Settings on the Managed Apps section of the Playstore to "Keep approved when app requests new permissions". This is only if you wish continuous updates to occur. Otherwise the ask permissions selection should be sufficient.

If you have the Managed Playstore Binding applied to the instance, you can do the following:

  • Create an Application Catalog rule under Rules
  • Tap on the "Add" button and select "Managed Google Play Applications"
  • Tap "Sync" next to the selected binding
  • Search for the Application that you wish to apply to the device
  • Tap "Advanced" and make sure the Application Type is set to "Mandatory"
  • Tap "OK" and "OK" again
  • Once all the Applications have been added as required, target the rule to the required Folders and tap "OK"

Any devices that are AE and able to receive the Rule applied will start receiving updates.

Let me know if you have any issues.

James
