Application Catalog Rules After 15.3

Hello Everyone

We are on Mobicontrol 15.5.1 since few month.

As always, I do my best to keep things working for our shops =)

I saw that App Catalog becam App policies since 15.3 (if i'm correct)

But when looking on devices, I see that there is still "Application Catalog Rules"

Those are making echoes with the last App policie we made.

Application Catalog is not possible to access anymore, so basically, how could i remove this one?!

Thanks for your help

If you are using an old device agent while your server has been upgraded, there might be discrepancy in terms of the terminology (name of the policy) used.  I'm not saying device agent must be upgraded after a server upgrade.   I don't think it is a big issue, as long as the apps defined in your App policy can be properly deployed on the device just like with the app-catalog rule in the old server version.  However, if you have found any problem related to the app deployment or app configurations,  please provide more details of the issue(s).

Hello Raymond,

Every agent is up to date on devices.

I found this while searching why, even while having Datalogic OEM Config , configured and set up in app policies , I still have device running outside this configuration.

Basically, the app was also in App configuration rule, but probably with an older configuration.

That why i was trying to get rid of those, the get "clean" configuration on devices and be sure everything is right where it should be.

Your App-Catalog rule in pre v15.3 should have been automatically migrated to App policy when your MobiControl server got upgraded to v15.5.1.  Is it not the case for you?

If you manually added new app-policy with the same app but different parameters to be deployed to the same device, it is possible that the old policy already deployed to the device before the server upgrade prevent your new app-policy from deploying successfully because the same app had already been installed on the device.

App-Catalog didn't migrate automaticcaly when upgraded.

Since then I didn't noticied anything directly, except i had to recreate app policies right after the update.

I wasn't aware this should have been migrated directly, and honestly didn't even saw there still was this app-catalog rule before today.

I'm clearly not specialist as most of you here on mobicontrol .

As it is probably duplicating few things and creating some errors...Is there a way to delete this catalog Rule ?

Is your MobiControl a cloud instance or an on-premises implementation?

Who did the server upgrade?  And upgrade from which server version & build numbers?

Mobicontrol is a On Premise implementation

I did the upgrade, being advised to do by soti support.

For the previous version...not sure, i'm trying to find some old mail mentionning it but no luck so far.

Without knowing your server version before the upgrade, and how you did your upgrade, it is hard to know if you took the right steps and configure the right options during the whole upgrade process.

However, if done properly,  all rules should be seamlessly migrated in full to the new version and there should be no need to manually add back missing policies one by one.  Not only is such task prone to error (possibly with missing or incorrect policy parameters), there can also different type of glitches on the device when transitioning from old to new policy, depending on the manually-migrated policy types and related policy details involved.

Still have a Backup of Database right before updating it (On June...)

Will remount it on another serv today to check what was the previous version.

As far as i remember, updating the version was pretty clear as it was just an installer and getting to click on next...just checking if the path was correct.
Don't remember that there was king of other setting while installing it.

It seems that previous version was 15.3.1

We had the same problem after upgrading to version 15.x.

One of our App Catalog Rules did not convert to an App Policy during update.

We raised a case with SOTI, who deleted the faulty rule from our DB.

Unfortunately the rule could not be transformed to the new App Policy. So we had to create a new one.

Did few search and found trace of thoses rules in dbo.DepRule

Not sure what this table stand for, but sure there is mention of them there.

Atm , those rules are still active , in // of new one...and probably make some conflict.

I'll open a case directly with SOTI to find if there is a way to clean DB from those so.

Thanks

Hello everyone,

Thank you for your posts and explanations.

Yes, that is correct, Application Catalog became App Policy on February 19, 2021 (See Release Notes, link below)

As per SOTI MobiControl Help page for version 15.3 and onward, here are two articles regarding Upgrade Errors that may explain some errors regarding App policies. They may not apply to yours.
