MobiControl Cloud - File sync to on-prem resources

We are talking with SOTI about moving our on-prem MobiControl instance to the Cloud, however we use File Sync rules right now which sync to on-premise resources by UNC path.

I understand there is something called "Cloud Link" which I thought would be a solution to this but it seems that this actually only deals with Active Directory.

Is it possible to file sync MobiControl Cloud instance with on-premise files? Or a way to get files onto the cloud server for file sync?

I don't think you can sync on-premise files to devices managed by a MobiControl cloud instance.

However, you can use "File System Manager" in the web-console of a MobiControl Cloud instance to upload on-premises files onto the file system of the cloud server.  While the screenshots here are for v14, there is similar item in v13 and earlier versions too.

Hello Dean,

Raymond has provided a very good method of completing this.  Nonetheless we do actually have a way of enabling this on cloud servers so that you can get files into your cloud environment to browse the files and sync them to devices as well.

For this I would have to request that you create a case with support and we can enable the feature for you.  Feel free to message me with the case number for follow up with the Support Technician.

Hello "Support Staff"

I'm really interested in "a way of enabling this on cloud servers so that you can get files into your cloud environment" ...

Therefor I created a Case (C00373009). With the request to make FTP available to a folder on our Cloud Environment.

But unfortunately, the Level 1 Technical Support Specialist is unable to do anything for me.

Would it be possible to have a look at my case and assist?

Hello Dennis Vdh,

was the support staff able to help you with C00373009? We are interested in the same thing - FTP folder in Cloud environment. How did they solve your problem?

Britta

We are interested in the same thing as we used this functionality in the older On Prem version of MobiControl and are looking to move to their cloud version.

My first post in this discussion thread already covered way of getting files onto cloud server for file sync.

Ok I see that, but how can you go see these files up in the cloud?

Hi Michelle,

At the moment, we don't offer an SFTP -> Cloud Server feature. However, you're welcome to raise a Feature Request via support@soti.net / support.eu@soti.net. Ideally, we need to look at your use cases and the potential solutions prior to the Feature Request being submitted internally on our side.

Thinking out loud, perhaps an API method that allows you to view, upload and delete files from your File Sync directory might be useful. Then it'll be a matter of syncing your on-premise resources to your cloud server accordingly.

The Soti MobiConttrol On Prem allowed you to do this seamlessly and our company has been using it flawlessly for over 10 years to back up data files from our field service devices. We are now being told we have to migrate to the cloud version and this feature is not available.

Why was this feature removed from the cloud version?

Hi Michelle,

SFTP is not mandatory.

You can see details of the files uploaded onto the cloud in the file system manager. The following screenshot shows a file I uploaded to a cloud instance a few minutes ago.

I got that far, but how do I go look at that file and open it up?

Select the "Download" item with a downward green arrow to get the file from the cloud server to a local directory on your machine running the web-console.    Unfortuntely, there is no recursive download for a folder or folder tree of files.
