Zebra MC9300 latest agent? is causing lockdown issue

I'm on soti v15

have mc9300s

they both have been upgraded to Android 10, security patch level dec5, 2020

both are in same lockdown profile

the one setup on Monday has a newer soti agent downloaded, agent 14.4.0 build

while in lockdown this one only shows the "back" button on the bottom of screen

the other mc9300 that has agent 14.4.3.1074 shows all three buttons

back button, home and recents

that's the only difference in these two devices I can tell so it appears that the newer agent broke the displaying of all

three buttons on the bottom of the lockdown screen?

has anyone seen this happen, as I need them back

update: maybe I'm wrong now the other device with the newer soti agent is doing the same thing:

I had used this command to turn lockdown off to view settings and the on command to turn lockdown back on

notify kiosk off

notify kiosk on

now both only show the left arrow key at the bottom of the lockdown screen

and now my power button on both these devices does nothing, I use to press and hold and it would give me option t restart, etc

why would using the notify kiosk off and then back on cause the buttons on the bottom of lockdown to go away on the unit that was displaying them?

after a reboot of both devices, the power button is working ok now as expected

Check your Lockdown/Kiosk Profile and see if it is configured for Native or Activity Suppression. If it is set to Native then that is the expected behavior. You can either switch it to Activity Suppression to return the Home and Recents buttons or configure the Native options to return the same.

If v14.4.3.1074 device agent is OK, then do not upgrade other devices to the new device agent.  In fact,  testing for device agent feature/compatibility on a handful of test devices before upgrading should always be done before mass deployment to other production devices.

Open an official support case with Soti support team.   If the root cause is found to be from the device agent or from the device firmware, wait for corresponding patch to be released by the relevant party.

the 14.4.3 was working until I used the command "notify kiosk off" and then notify kiosk on

now it's doing the same thing as the slightly newer agent

I had this set to "native" so that I could use the "features" in Android 10 such as the "recents" button and to be able to "close" in my case "soti surf".   I had showed me all three buttons until a day or so ago.

So I changed this to Activity suppression and saved, then back to Native and they all three now appear as before

thanks

I have no idea what happened

on my android 8.1, lockdown is set to "native" and it only shows the BACK button

for android 10 when same setting of "native" it shows all three buttons when working correctly

Raymond,

I completely agree about testing before rolling out, in this case I got pushed for a deadline and wanted all devices on Android 10 which has some features that I need vs Android 8.1 but I wasn't aware that I the soti agents were as of different versions as of the download date, we use the afw#mobicontrol when setting up the device to ensure it will go into "work managed" mode and have the remote control function, I would have preferred to have the same agent version for now

Yes, that is 100% expected behavior. The Native option is the kiosk mode that is a function of Android Enterprise that Google has been improving over time with each new version of Android. The Native kiosk of Android 8.x doesn't have as many configurable parameters of the Native kiosk of 9.x and 10.x and so on. This is a function of Android Enterprise applicable to any EMM and not necessarily unique to SOTI. It is however called out within the SOTI UI when you hover over the respective configurations. Note how the configurations of the Recents option in the Native kiosk is only available on Android 9 and above.

Hi Larry,

With an Android provisioning device running Soti Mobicontrol Stage Programmer app, any desired AE device agent version can be installled if the coreesponding customization file is properly configured.  This has been discussed in earlier posts in other threads.

I noticed the other posts from Matt.  So maybe the new device agent is OK if you reconfigure the kiosk profile payload parameters properly.

while my profile was correct, having said that after your reply I went back into my profile and changed from "native" to "activity suppression", save and then changed it back to "native"

I think given the fact that I had to do that and another profile assignment not sticking I need to upgrade my soti from v15.01 when I can

thanks for you help as I don't think it was the soti agent after all...
