Situation
Move your printers from SOTI MobiControl to SOTI Connect and get better automation and configuration options. This process allows you to simultaneously send the SOTI Connect settings to many printers from SOTI MobiControl instead of resetting and configuring each printer individually.
Environment
This applies to all SOTI MobiControl environments with a PAS setup as long as the printers are also compatible with SOTI Connect. View the list of approved printers and their required firmware versions on this SOTI Pulse page.
Process Description
To move your devices, follow these three steps:
- Deploy MQTT configuration settings in SOTI MobiControl.
- Enroll printers onto SOTI Connect.
- Remove Weblink settings from SOTI Connect.
Disclaimer: Before you enroll printers onto SOTI Connect, update their firmware to make sure it is on a compatible version. See this SOTI Pulse page for more details.
Deploy MQTT configuration settings in SOTI MobiControl
1. Create the .ZPL firmware file containing the MQTT server settings. Learn more about creating these configuration files in this SOTI Pulse article.
2. Open the MobiControl Package Studio application and create a new printer package.
3. Add the configuration file and proceed to build the package.
4. On the SOTI MobiControl web console, create a new Printer profile.
5. Upload the built package onto the profile.
6. Save and assign the profile to the targeted printers.
Enrolling Printers onto SOTI Connect
Once the printer receives the configurations and establishes communication with the MQTT Broker, an alert indicating a printer was discovered appears on the SOTI Connect web console. Follow these steps to approve the discovered printers and complete enrollment:
1. On the SOTI Connect web console, select Alerts to view the discovered device alert. Note: Zebra devices are auto-discovered as they are MQTT-RPC devices.
2. To enroll the printer, select the device that is waiting for approval and choose Approve.
Note: You can also create an enrollment rule to approve devices that you discover automatically.
Removing Weblink settings from SOTI Connect
After enrolling the printer in SOTI Connect, use this script to disable Weblink on the printer.
! U1 servar "weblink.enable" "off"
! U1 setvar "weblink.ip.conn1.location" ""
