I'm trying to set the device-name in Android itself with some sort of a script we can send. I thought using the name format in Rules would also change the devicename in Android but this doesn't seem to be the case on TC26 with Android 10.It only changes the name that shows in Soti Mobicontrol portal itself. See image (sorry in Dutch) but it says "Device name":
Is there anyway to get the Android Plus device name and write it to a file and call it device.name and place it in a specific folder? Using MobiControl v13.4 For some background info. We use an inhouse app that uses 2 files for configuration. To preconfig the app if I upload both files before hand and then install it works fine (either upload manually or via a profile, profile is our preferred method). The problem is one of these files is supposed to match the Mobi name. This is not something I know how to preconfigure when uploading to 400 devices. Can anyone suggest a way to write the device name to a text file prior to installing the apk? Ideally doing it through a profile/package would be preferred as that way it can be deployed as a required package by our profile.
Hello I've done a bit of searching on the forums, but haven't been able to find an answer to my question. Forgive me if this has been asked before. We manage a large number of Zebra TC51 devices for one of our clients. These devices are frequently assigned a new device name from the MobiControl WebConsole. We have had situations in the past where we would need to retrieve the previous device name after a new name has already been assigned. Is it possible to retrieve the previous device name from a device? Any help you could provide would be appreciated.
If the device name used in the ADD DEVICE RULE is updated to a NEW device name, would new devices enrolled after the device name was changed enroll with the older device name or the updated device name? For instance, if the name originally configured in the ADR was "TC57_%ESN%", and the MCSETUP.ini file was downloaded and being used. At some point the ADR is updated and the new device name is now "TC57_%SerialNumber% but the MCSETUP.ini file is NOT re-downloaded. What would the device name of newly enrolled devices be if the original MCSETUP.ini file is still being used? Would SOTI set the device name to the updated ADR configuration or would the MCSETUP.ini configuration be used?
Hello, I've been looking around the forums for a solution but haven't really found anything that describes what I want to do despite the many questions about the device naming macros. The main thing I want to do is update the %AUTONUM% macro to start at a given number. Other things could maybe be that I want the %SERIALNUM% to only show the last 4 characters/digits of the serial number or something. We were told that the macros could be customized somehow but I can't find any info on how to do it or what the limits are or anything. I know the AUTONUM starting at a specific number is the main one we want to do. If it is possible to customer these macros, I would appreciate any info or any pointers to find that info. Greetings all ! Anyone using multiple macros for the device name on the Android platform ? Our current fleet (windows CE) use the following %REG://HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\Software\Intermec\SSClient?VN=UniqueID% How would we get new device enrolling, with 2 macros (name+serial) in the android world ? When I called in and asked about this, I was sent this link https://www.soti.net/mc/help/v14.1/en/console/other/macros.html But its no help.. :-( Any advise ? cheers ! Seb
Hello, Is it possible to set a host name with Stage Now and then display it as a device name during staging in SOTI?We tried using StageNow (via the HostManager) to set the hostname, but that did not work. Any Idea?
Hello, We are displaying the %DEVICENAME% variable in our HTML device lockdown. This part is working fine, but the issue we are running into is that once the device is added to MobiControl, we rename them to match a naming convention that the Device Add Rule cannot replicate (combination of model # and substring of serial #/IMEI#). When we rename the device the name on the lockdown screen does not update until we either make a change to the profile and re-assign it or move the device between groups that cause the profile to be re-applied. How do we automatically force the lockdown screen to refresh this variable, while it is connected, without having to move it between groups or profiles? When I enroll a device into Mobicontrol, is there a way to have it prompt for the device name to use?
Hi, i have a problem with the device name. i have a zebra / symbol MC92 CE7 installed with an agent and everything works perfect. only when i want to reinstall the scanner with a diffrent agent (and diffrent device name) the scanner keeps the 'old' device name. the rest of the 'new agent' is working fine. like device target. Old device name ( agent WH700 / target folder wh700_staging) : MC92N0CE_WH700 new device name ( agent WH100 / target folder wh100_staging): MC92N0CE_WH100 what did i do: factory reset the device (mc92) delete device from soti when it is offline reinstall the device with the new agent (agent wh100). check if the device installed the new agent --> Yes device name still MC92N0CE_WH700. NOT correct device location WH100_staging. Correct. anyone an idea?
