Default app change in lockdown mode

I have a Samsung Android Enterprise device running Android 15 that is in lockdown and works fine except it needs to use a different app besides the default to open PDF files. I have allowed the PDF application but hidden it in Lockdown, but when a user goes to open a PDF the first time, they get this prompt:

A screenshot of a phone

AI-generated content may be incorrect.

Right now I am having to tell users to make sure they select the MuPDF app and check Always so that it will work correctly in lockdown, but that is a pain and I really do not want to do it manually across a few hundred devices before deployment.
Is there a way to script or select the app from within Mobicontrol to set the default application correctly? I have not ever done any type of script work in Mobicontrol but would love some insight about how it could possibly be done.

Thank you for any assistance with this.

Hi CaptainHowdy,

Since the device is in lockdown, I recommend blacklisting any unused PDF applications and keeping only the required PDF application whitelisted. This way, the system won’t prompt users with multiple options. Could you please give this a try and let us know if it resolves the issue?

As for the feature to set the default application, a feature request has already been raised with our product team, but it has not yet been released.

Howdy AKMOD,

The issue is that the team does still use Edge, but if they open the PDF using Edge in this app, it moves them into using Edge and they cannot go back to the app by hitting the back button. (Which is the behavior that they want) When they use the MuPDF application as the default for the PDF it seems to work easier in the main application and allows for this behavior.

I was not sure if there is a command or script or something else that could be run to define how the OS would try to open those files.

Hopefully Soti themselves can get us something to do this in the future.

Hi CaptainHowdy ,

At the moment we dont have such feature for setting app as default pdf opener but as mentioned before it has been notified to the development team.

Hopefully it will be implemented in future releases.
