SOTI Shared Device - Login Transition

N

Hello,

Currently we are trialing the Shared Device mode in SOTI using Samsung android tablets.

We have set up both Login Pre-lockdown and Post-lockdown profiles. And configured the Shared Device mode details using Entra SSO etc.

When you click the Login icon, it brings up the O365 username and password screen. After entering your details for SSO and signing in, the screen disappears and briefly shows the Login screen again. Then, you are prompted to enter your session PIN. Once you enter the PIN, it returns to the Login screen.

The main issue is that it takes about 5 to 10 seconds for the device to sign in and switch to the Post-lockdown profile.

Our staff are getting confused because sometimes the session PIN prompt doesn’t appear, or after entering the PIN, there’s a 5-10 second delay, making them think nothing is happening, so they click Login again.

Is it possible to add a transition screen after setting a PIN, such as a “Loading” or “Please wait” message?

Thanks

Hi Nick,

Is this using the new 2026 functionality or the older shared device mode pre version 2026?

Many thanks,

Darius

Hi Darius,

Here are the versions

MobiControl version: 2025.0.3.1026

Agent Version: 2026.0.1.1158

Hi Nick,

Thanks for letting me know,

So what we're looking at is how the handoff works behind the scenes.

From my understanding on Samsung devices there’s a small pause while Knox passes the SSO token to SOTI and the agent swaps from the pre-lockdown profile to the post-lockdown one. If the profiles are heavy (lots of restrictions, kiosk rules, app visibility changes, etc.) that handover can stretch to 5–10 seconds. During that window the UI can flick back to the login screen and make it look like nothing’s happening even though the device is actually processing in the background.

The PIN screen also isn’t consistent because the timing depends on network speed, Entra response time, and how quickly the profile reloads which is why you're only seeing this in some cases. Some devices handle it in a couple of seconds, others take longer and feel laggy.

There’s no way to add a custom “Loading” or “Please wait” screen, because the Shared Device Mode UI is controlled entirely by the SOTI agent + Microsoft’s SDM libraries. No hooks to drop extra screens in.

Best improvements usually come from simplifying the pre/post lockdown profiles - fewer policy changes, fewer app shifts, and avoiding any heavy kiosk transitions.

It was one of the negative points when i wanted to implement this for our end users.

If you want to go with this, i would recomend to apply all app policies, configuration profiles, etc to the main group and all the sub-groups.

The only change should be for lockdown profiles (pre/post sign in)
