Rules or restrictions not applied on devices

Solved Locked

Hi,

I manage to enroll devices (Android Zebra, Samsung, Unitech) in the platform. I can access in remote control ; geoloc info; uninstall the app.
But I have difficulties to configure equipments.

When I assigned rules (application catalogs) and restrictions profiles (lockdown, ...) to devices but it has no effect.

Previously, I had installed on devices the applications mobicontrol / Settings Manager / Soti Surf.
Even after a reboot Mobicontrol Settings Manager displays "This app is not yet configured. retry later ... "

What could have done wrong?

Thanks.

It appears then that you have enrolled the devices using the OEM specific agents which means you're using Device Administrator (DA) based management which SOTI calls Android+. The Profile that you created however is an Android Enterprise Profile (DO) which will not apply to any devices managed under DA. You either need to Re-Enroll the devices as Android Enterprise DO (recommended for future proofing purposes) OR you need to recreate that Profile as an Android Plus profile. Android Enterprise is the default Profile type in newer 14.x versions like you have so you may not have even noticed that Android Plus was an option in the drop down menu when creating the Profile.

The confusion between Android+ (DA) and Android Enterprise (PO or DO) is honestly something SOTI needs to work on distinguishing better in the UI and documentation.

For the profile issues, perhaps check that the correct profile type has been set. E.g. Android Plus vs Android Enterprise.

I do not know if we're talking about the same thing but in the Enrollment profil, in the Agent Download tab, I defined Android Enterprise as MobilControl Agent.

In agreement with Jake here. You’re enrollment method will dictate which management style you’re under and therefore which Profile type you need to create and assign. If you enrolled with a DA agent then you need to use Android+. If you enrolled with an AE agent under DO then use Android Enterprise, although you may also need the manufacturer specific AE plugin first. If you enrolled with AE under PO then most of the configurations would not apply because you don’t have as much control in a Work Profile BYOD use case.

Regarding your mentioned problem with  MobiControl Settings Manager, have you successfully deployed any "Settings Manager" profile payload to your targeted device?

I was talking about ""Settings Manager" payload in an Android profile, not  the "Settings Manager" app installed with .pcg package or from Google Play store.

What are the version and build number of your MobiControl server, device agent and "Settings Manager" app?

If you're able to get the Settings Manager APK installed then I take it that you have the right Profile type (AE vs. Android+) being assigned to the devices, so your issues may stem from the type of payloads and/or configurations that you're trying to apply.

In breaking this statement down:

"When I assigned rules (application catalogs) and restrictions profiles (lockdown, ...) to devices but it has no effect"

Application Catalogs are reliant on Managed Play distribution. If you are not enrolled under Android Enterprise with Managed Play Accounts associated with the devices then an App Catalog won't really apply.

Lockdown Profiles are reliant on an Authentication Profile. If you haven't also assigned an Authentication profile to the devices then a Lockdown Profile will fail to apply.

I'm working the following versions :

- Soti Mobicontrol - Version: 14.4.1.1195 (Cloud)

- MobiControl Device Agent  V13.8.0 Build1047 (dowloaded on http://soti.net/oem)

- MobiControl Settting manager v 14.3.4 build132

And yes, in the android profil, I defined a setting manager. But after an assignation, I see no effect on the device and in the section Soti > Device xxx > Configutations > Profils (list empty)
