Unable to enroll Android Zebra MC93 into Mobicontrol as an enterprise device

Hi,

I have spent the last few days speaking back and forth with support and am now looking for if anyone else has had these issues.

When I run through the initial setup of the Scanners (Zebra MC9300) I am told by the MobiControl guide to use the afw#mobicontrol when asked for a google account. This works, and MobiControl is installed. This issue then is when trying to enroll the device into our MobiControl server the enrolment fails, using the SSID we use for all the scanners on our estate. Using the Enrolment ID or URL does not allow us to enroll.

The SSID we use for our scanners is locked down from internet usage because of where they are situated and internet access on any device is prohibited.

Now the fun part. I am told that the devices NEED internet access to contact the deployment server to enroll the devices, BUT when I skip all of the initial setup and install the APK from the MobiControl Agent site, I can enroll the device, it comes into MobiControl and I am able to configure profiles and such. The only issue is we can only remote VIEW the devices. Now most of these devices are on remote sites (we are in UK, Warehouses are in France) therefore we need to be able to remote control the device to troubleshoot any issues that may arise.

I am told that the devices need to be enrolled as enterprise devices in order to be able to remote control them and even when manually installing the APK it should enroll as a enterprise device rather then just a work profile.

I tried also to set up the StageNow application but was unsuccessful to get it to stage using a barcode.

Has anyone got any ideas or scenarios that are similar?

TIA

Android Enterprise Device Owner (Work Managed) is certainly what you'll need to get Remote Control (and most Profiles and configurations) working on the device. You could possibly stand up a separate staging SSID that is more open in order to get through the enrollment procedure and then switch them to the production SSID after.

Hi Matt,

Thanks for taking to time to respond to my query.

The problem is we have tried this with an internet connection via a hotspot and adding the afw#mobicontrol when asked for a google account still wont let us enroll the device onto our system via the Enrollment ID. Obviously the url has our IP address associated to it which my hotspot has no idea what that is.

This is of course going into the realm of we are unable to provide any internet connection on our warehouse sites as they are all situated on an internal network with a MobiControl server they point to. Surely when enrolling via our wifi connection that has no internet connection should enroll onto our own mobicontrol server and not have to route through any of SOTI's network to come back to us?

Thanks again.

Adam

You don't have to use the Enrollment ID, it is merely there for convenience as it is a shorthand form of the Enrollment URL. You can input the Enrollment URL directly, or embed it in a barcode that you can scan. If you can't get to the Enrollment service from your firewalled network in order to resolves the Enrollment URL from the Enrollment ID and you also can't get to your SOTI server while on a public network then you can just bypass that entire operation by connecting directly to the Enrollment URL while behind your firewalled network.

Exactly what I thought.

But enrolling it as a enterprise device to be able to remote control still doesn't work. Unfortunately.

You need to confirm that the device is showing its status as Work Managed:

Once you're at that point you can install the OEM Specific AE plugin in order for Remote Control access to work. In newer versions of MobiControl this Plugin can be configured to be installed automatically. Depending on your version you may need to upload the Plugin to your server and then deploy it as a Profile, or use the Plugin delivery service built into newer versions of MobiControl.
