install_system_update script isn't updating Zebra TC70x LifeGuard file

I synced the zip file to the device and then sent the "install_system_update /sdcard/OSUpdate.zip" script. The device got disconnected, however, it was back on only after one minute. It usually took approximately 5-10 minutes before it was connected again. And it seems the script didn't update anything. I tried removing the file from the sdcard and re-syncing it again, but it still didn't work. Has anyone ever experiend this issue?

Are you in front of or near the device while this is happening? Are you able to witness any failures or errors on the device screen when it reboots into recovery mode?

Does the device have sufficient battery when attempting to perform this operation? If the battery is lower than a given threshold (I believe 30-40% depending on the model) then it could fail.

No, the device wasn't in front of me. I tried three TC70x Oreo devices and none of them worked. All of them are also at 100% battery.

I did another device this morning though. It was TC72 Android 10. I used the same method, just a different file and it worked.

Try checking the device logs in SOTI, if you sent a script it will often show an error.

No error at all... I'm trying to update from 02-52-21.00-OG-U05-STD to 02-52-21.00-OG-U06-STD.

As you see there the file was skipped (maybe because it's already on the device).
I assume the script won't be executed when no file is copied, so try to run your script manually.
And check if the file name (and path) copied to the device is comparing to the one used in your script.

From your intital Post: "install_system_update /sdcard/OSUpdate.zip
From the Logs: "install_system_update /sdcard/ATLAS_DELTA_UPDATE_02-52-21.00-OG-U06-STD.zip"

So, which one is correct?

The correct script is install_system_update /sdcard/ATLAS_DELTA_UPDATE_02-52-21.00-OG-U06-STD.zip. I just used OSUpdate.zip as an example on the post.

Yes, the file was skipped when syncing because it's already on the device. Even if I deleted the file, re-sync, and ran the script again, still did nothing.

Hello everyone,

Thank you for posting on SOTI Pulse.

As per SOTI MobiControl Help Page your script used is the correct one:

As per Manage Google Play Help, here is what they recommend when you update some apps:

Manage app updates

Could you also confirmed that the file is located in the correct folder on all your devices?

The below screenshots show you and example where the file located in a folder, does not match the path specified in the script install_system_udpate:

Once done, from your devices, under Device Actions , you may use Sync File Now (If available in your MC version), to force file synchronisations on your selected devices.

Once the update has been done, you should be able to see under Device Details > OEM Version, the version of the firmware => 02-52-21.00-OG-U06-STD. You can also check on your devices, if the firmware version has been changed.

As per Zebra Tech Docs, here is a link which resume everything I mentioned:

Perform an OS Update Using StageNow Tool or SOTI MobiControl

From the same page, there is the following link:

Android+ Creating File Sync Rules (Gives you an idea on how to create a File Sync Rule)

Perform OS Update (From Zebra, there is a part regarding Perform Incremental OS Update)

Note
: I also noticed that the file you mentioned for Zebra TC70x (OS for Oreo) devices is the same file for Zebra MC3300 devices (OS for Oreo):

=> ATLAS_DELTA_UPDATE_02-52-21.00-OG-U06-STD.zip

MC3300 OPERATING SYSTEM FOR GMS DEVICES

Hi,

Thank you for your response! The device is connected to a wifi, but restricted to our intranet network only. Does it have to be connected to external network as well for the sync file rule to work?

Hello MMIS Help,

Sorry for the delay.

I would like to know if the conditions from updating/upgrading by Google are met?

Could you let us know from the log, what is "Zebra_OS_Update"?

To reply to your question:

Does it have to be connected to external network as well for the sync file rule to work?

In our test server, it is connected to the internet, and I can transfer files successfully by using a File Sync Rule.

Thank you.
