Error when calling install_system_update

Hi,

I've got a number of Zebra TC52 devices, and I need to apply the laterst LifeGuard update to them. I've created a File Sync rule, and that seems to work correctly. I.e. I get an entry to the device log which says that the file has been synced.

Then I want to call the install_system_update script command, but I get the following log entry when I do:

Custom log (Mx OTA failed: /sdcard/HE_FULL_UPDATE_11-30-24.00-RG-U00-STD-HEL-04.zip)

Any idea what could be the cause of this?

Regards,

Daníel

Please give us more information:

  • Which current firmware does the device have?
  • How does the script look like you try to execute?
  • Where is the file stored on the device after sync?
    • Take a look on the device if it's really there where you think it is.

Hi Daniel,

Without more details, I can just make an educated guess that your problem might be related to read-write access permission of the file folder containing the file, or the way the target file folder is specified in your script calling the install_system_update command.

I never got this to work, so during my next visit to the customer I applied the update manually via a MicroSD card.

It is possible that this issue is related to the fact that these devices (and the MobiControl server) are located on a closed network with no access to the global internet.

Hi Daniel,

This should not affect the update if it does not have access to the global internet. I would suggest that you open up a ticket with Soti Technical Support or contact Zebra Support for further assistance.
