"Remote Control" not available for device with Android 8.x, only "Remote View"

Hi,

I've been deploying a few Zebra devices which are using Android 8.1, for instance the TC57 model. When viewing the device in Soti MobiControl, I only get the option to view the device (i.e. "Remote View" and "Remote View (HTML5)"), but not the "Remote Control" option I've previously seen for devices with older versions of Android.

Are there any specific steps I need to take in order to enable the "Remote Control" functionality?

Regards,

Daníel

Hi,  If your setup is AE, have you installed the SOTI AE plugin to provide the additional SOTI agent features?

https://www.soti.net/files/apks/AE/Zebra_Hawkeye_RC_AE_1.6.0.102.pcg from https://docs.soti.net/mobicontrolagentdownloads/

Must admit for me, with new Zebra TC51x devices on Android 8.x, the remote control feature is also only Remote View even with the Plugin but give it a try.

Regards

John.

The plugin is definitely required in order for Remote Control to work. I can't speak to the TC51 Oreo but I have used RC with that plugin on an Oreo MC9300, TC8300, TC52, VC80x, and MC3300. Given that the MC3300 and VC80x are the same Atlas product family as the TC51 I would expect it to work. The MC9300, TC8300, and TC52 are also part of the same Helios (SD660) product family as the TC57.

Hi Daniel !

Can you please check and inform what is there under "supported APIs" for affected device under device Tab. It should be RC+ to have a remote control feature enabled. However, if devices are BYOD then it would have Remote View feature only.

Thanks !

DS

Supported APIs has the value "Remote View, Android for Work Managed Device, 1103"

I haven't installed the Hawkeye plugin, are there any instructions anywhere how to install plugins?

Hi Daniel,

You can download it from soti.net/oem webpage ,choose Android enterprise Agent and plug-ins and then choose manufacturer from the list under plug-ins.

Also, send this plug-in as a package to device.

Thanks !

DS

Will try that, but how are plugins installed on the Soti server?

All the plug-in's downloadable from Soti support site are in .pcg package format.   Just go to the Packages tab to import the .pcg downloaded, and include the corresponding module in a profile.

Thanks for everyone who replied. Adding this plugin resolved the matter. Thanks!
