Issues with Administrator Mode while in Single App Mode

Hi

we are using SOTI for 3000+ Android devices with SOTI 13.4 and would like to switch to single app mode. However we are not able to access the administator mode and we have tried that "touch" solution in this article (https://discussions.soti.net/kb/administrator-mode-while-in-single-app-mode/) on multiple devices without success.

Does this really work? Is there any script command we could use to "enable/disable" SAM ?

The only fix we found so far and it's not really usable is uninstalling the application we are running - this is however a poor solution since we want to access the devices for troubleshooting.

Looking forward to your response!

Best regards

Hello Marcus,

Thank you for requesting an answer, normally by holding the back button of the device, the administrator option should pop up which will allow you to enter in your admin password.

The second option you have is to send a script to the device:

notify kiosk off

After the script is sent - you should be able to click your home button and it should redirect you to the home page of the device, to disable it you just send the script notify kiosk on.

Hope this helps,

I think the request was for Single App Mode or app pinning which is different from the kiosk mode if I'm not mistaken. It's still worth trying the notify kiosk off script however as that might do the trick.

Hi

thank you for your prompt reply!

Some tests and notes based on feedback provided:

- Hitting the back button (page-up via remote control) is disabled somehow (device just beeps)

- Notify kiosk script work with a few extra steps but does the trick!

Disable "SAM"
1. via SOTI script: "notify kiosk off"
*now you can kill explicit SAM application*
3. via SOTI GUI (remote session) kill application process
4. via SOTI GUI (remote session) press ESC to get to desktop
*you are now "kiosk"/"SAM" free*

Enable "SAM"
1. Via SOTI script: "notify kiosk on"
*"SAM" mode will be enabled and start specified application*

Note:
1. "notify kiosk off" sticks despite reboot - make sure to enable! If sending "notify kiosk on" post reboot it will initiate behind the lockscreen on our devices
2. When you sent "notify kiosk off" you will be prompted with the MobiControl app - you can press Page-Up and login as administrator. If running "SAM" you will still be stuck with that application, no shortcut bars etc. Application still needs to be killed

I'm still curious about the "Administrator Mode while in Single App Mode" steps, does this acctually work?

1. Press from bottom 30% of the left side of the device
2. Gesture right to halfway of the screen. (try to remain within the same point on the y-axis)
3. Without letting go of contact, wait for at least 2 seconds.
4. Gesture Left back to the edge where you started. (try to remain within the same point on the y-axis)
5. Administrator Prompt is shown

Thank you again and best regards

I can confirm that I previously did successfully switch my test devices to administrator mode while in single app mode using the documented procedures.  However, I could not recall the device models (though likely some Samsung devices), firmware or device agent versions used in the tests.   Many of these UI related features are actually very dependent on the firmware implementation and Android version, so I would not be surprised if there is some minor or even major problem for particular brand or models.

What are the brands/model of your 3000+ devices and the device agent version/build numbers?   What about the build number of your v13.4 MobiControl server?

Hello Marcus,

I have tested this with a Samsung Tab A and can confirm that it appears to work. After Swiping my finger right to left the option to input the administrator password does pop up.
