Can you put an app accessible on the lockdown screen behind a password

We currently have tablets instore that are accessible to both Customers and the Staff.

The devices are connected to design machines that are then used by customers, but  the staff need access to the settings on the device to connect to the various different machines in store for various demos . For this. we are looking to use the settings manager, however I am looking for a way to put this application behind further security to prevent customers from having access to this.

Is there anyway to do this at all or is this not possible through MobiControl?

Not as far as i know.

But i assume you use the single-app (kiosk) mode, so customers can only access the app you want to provide.

So, because of that you have already a password protection there, so if you leave the kiosk mode you have access to the settings.

As MobiControl kiosk is based on a HTML/CSS/javascript web-page  renderer engine,  it is definitely possible to implement password validated operation in the lockdown menu.   However, implementing that properly, in terms of stability, speed and security, requires reasonable programming skills in various web (languages and/or framework) technologies and sufficient understanding of MobiControl system.   For example, if one decide to use jQuery Mobile or Bootstrap framework to implement the password mechanism, one has to make sure all libraries and resources required by the framework are properly deployed onto the device to ensure proper operation even when the device is offline, and such files are sufficiently protected against hacking.  Also, how the password is to be managed also requires special considerations.

Hi Raymond,

have you tried this out?

How does it work exactly with javascript, for legacy scripts you just need to place the "CMD" File on the Device and then link it correctly with Script:// do i need to have a different file type? Or how does one specify that its the javascript engine to be used?

Also can you combine legacy and javascript commands?

If you are using recent enough MobiControl server and device agent, and your password can be somewhat static and coded in-line, then the latest javascript script engine may already have required library routines (e.g. in mobicontrol.app, mobicontrol.message.TextPromptDialog, etc classes )  to implement  a simple password mechanism to start an app.   Your kiosk item should be script:// to refer to such javascript file (not javascript  alongside html/CSS codes for the renderer I mentioned in my previous post of this thread).  However, some tricky clean-up mechanism might need to be implemented to close the app after some predefined time.

Hello Nathan,

Thank you for posting on SOTI Central!

Would you like to consider an option of your users to enter the admin mode to get access to Settings?

To access admin mode, the admin password needs to be entered.

Please let me know if you have any questions.
