SotiServer 15.1.3 upgrade from V14.2.1 // SQL // Windows Server

Hello,

the SotiServer is running on a WinServer 2012R2 we are planning to upgrade to WinServ2016. 

We do have a sql server 2016 but only Version 13.0.1742.0 no Service Pack 2 installed right know. 

We also have an on premise SotiServer Version: 14.2.1.4394 we plan a upgrade to Version 15.1.3.

 15.1.X Recommended specs: 

Component Recommended Level for 15.1 Software
  • Microsoft SQL Server 2014
  • Microsoft SQL Server 2016 (Service Pack 2 Cumulative Update 1)
  • Microsoft SQL Server 2017

So we could upgrade our SQL Server to SP2. 

   But would the 15.1.3 SotiServer Version also run with SQL Version 13.0.1742?

   What is best practice here? 

      Update Windows Server to 2016 

   Update SQL Server

Update SotiMobicontrol Server

We would like to know what you would suggest.

Hi Michael,

when Soti installation and SQL Server is on the Same Server :

  • Shut Down and Create A VM Snapshot
  • Upgrade the Server OS to 2016
  • Install All WSUS Updates
  • Take VM Snapshot (Shut Down and Snapshot was my best experience)
  • Upgrade to SQL Server 2017
  • Install all WSUS Updates
  • ake VM Snapshot (Shut Down and Snapshot was my best experience)
  • Update the SQL Server 2017 Version to the Latest Release !
  • Cechk if all WSUS Updates are installed
  • ake VM Snapshot (Shut Down and Snapshot was my best experience)
  • Update MobiControl
  • Check if all was working

With creating all these Snap Shots you are able to Jump back if you having Issues.

Version 2:

Install a new Server with OS 2016, with SQL Server 2017 (then Update to the Latest Release)

Install MobiControl and ask for a temporary Key.

Set up your configuration on the New Server for the Scanner Packages Rules, ....

Move the Scanners to the New Server, may with the Support or Professional Server

Hello, 

we did everything and now are running Version 15.1.3 so we are good to go. 

It worked out at the end. 

We did a server upgrade to 2016 Datacenter

Moved the DB to an sql 2016 with Sp2 installed. 

Then upgraded Soti MobiControl.

So far some minor issues, but i hope we get them fixed. 

Fun project would upgrade again.
