Wrong Routes in Location Map

Hi there,

we are using a Datacollection Rule for GPS Tracking in one environment.

Unfortunatly it appears that the routers are displayed totaly wrong.

As you can see in the picture, the device supposedly drove the blue path. However, this has not been the case.
Is there an explanation for the faulty display?

Kind regards,

Daniel

Agent Version is 15.1.3.

Devices are Android 9 and Android 11 from the same Manufacturer.

What was the collection interval/schedule configured in your data-collection rule?  Have you checked the location data in the collected-data tab of your device to see if there are any missing data points possibly due to GPS data signal strength or device powered off?

Hi Raymond,
collection interval on device is set to 10minutes. Check-In every 2 Hours.

Unfortunately, it is not possible now to trace how the state of the device was at that time, because the data is deleted every day. Unfortunately, this is a privacy policy of the company.

I just wonder how the line is determined. There are other examples where a straight line goes across the city and connects two points and then others like my example from the first post where this route was never driven.

Just received the answer that the issue i mentioned first just occures while the device is getting tracked for a specific time. I will investigate deeper and let you know

Your problem may be partially solved by decreasing the data collection interval/schedule from 10 minutes to the lowest possible value of 2 minutes.  This of course implies that the battery life of the device will be reduced as the agent need to wake the device up every 2 minutes to collect locaton data.

More sophicated location/GPS solution may use other sensors such as accelerometers/gyroscope and other mechanism to track the exact route/movement at very short intervals (typically 10 seconds or shorter).  With your current 10 minutes settings,  it will be hard for Soti MobiControl to estimate/guess the actual route taken in between.  The problem is especially serious in highway when device movement can be extremely fast, or in urban areas with complex & dense web of road networks.  The tests I did in Hong Kong many years showed that the routes shown can be ridiculously wrong, especially because of the large number of dense & narrow roads surrounded by tall buildings/skyscrapper found everywhere in the city of Hong Kong.  Thd Mobicontrol software has to output something in-between the location points, and has to be pure guess whatever smart algorithm is used.

Hi Daniel,

Thank you for posting on SOTI Central.

Sorry for the delay in responding to your post. However, I noticed that you logged the case with Support and we suggested you to turn on the Google location services in order to track the location.

Hi NTMOD,

i tuned on location service a while ago. The collection isn't the problem. The problem is that MobiControl is guessing the journey a lot of times and my customer is confused by the path the device allegedly drove.

That's the Problem.

Kind regards,

Daniel

Hi Daniel,

Thank you for your response. Please try the steps below and advise the result.

If the device is an Android device, please enable Location Accuracy to High Accuracy (in the Feature Control).

If the device is an iOS device, please

1. Enable the Optimal Location Accuracy - (Use Assisted GPS Data)

2. Turn on Location Services on the device to Always.

Kind Regards,

Hi Daniel,

If you have already turned on Location Accuracy in the Feature control to High Accuracy.

Please check and try below:

1. Check if Google Map is installed on the device > Launch the app > Enable Google Location service > Locate the device.

2. On the web console > on the device page > Locate tab > Click Locate icon

3. Check if the web console can locate the device correctly.

4. If the web console still did not locate the device correctly, please try to send the script below to the device. This will force the device to report it’s GPS location to MobiControl.
