Automatically Opening Keyboard in Kiosk Mode – Looking for a Way to Disable It

Hello everyone,

we are currently using a configured URL within our Kiosk Mode, which allows our users to open a specific submenu. In this particular section, the on-screen keyboard automatically pops up, even though no text input is required.
This behavior causes unnecessary interactions and makes the workflow less efficient for our employees.

Therefore, I would like to ask:
Is there a way in SOTI MobiControl to disable or control the automatic appearance of the keyboard?
Maybe through a specific Kiosk Mode setting, an OEMConfig parameter, or a WebView-related option?

Any insights, experiences, or possible workarounds would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance for your support!

Hi AMMOD@SOTI,

We are using MC33 modules from manufacturer Zebra.

You have multiple solutions for this.

  1. disable keyboard with Stagenow (i would not recomend it. In case you need the keyboard for something else, or troubleshooting on the device itself (unless you have a backup qr code to enable keyboard in such cases)
  2. Change on-screen keyboard to ZebracommonIME or Soti Mobicontrol (you can do it removetly with mx scripts or OEMConfig. Check if those are available on MC33
  3. Use a 3rd party keyboard. I would recomend this in case your application requires at some point for the users to type in something. In our case, we switched to proglove keyboard (It has the option to start in minimized form (just one button, and if you needfull keyboard just press that button). Zebra Keyboard has that custom layout where you can configure the layouts for different applications but it might be difficult to setup

We have seen such behaviour since the last Webview updates that the Onscreen keyboard was displayes on pages although the input field was not selected/active. Uninstalling the webview update would help, of course this has other consequences like missing current webview featues/security patches.
