Adding Office 365 SMTP Server

I've read the instructions on adding a SMTP server with Basic authentication but I have not been able to do that with a 365 service account and I believe it is because Microsoft has blocked Basic authentation.  So do I need to setup Modern Authentiation, create a client secret and select negotiate as the Authentation type?

Hi Charles,

Thank you for posting on SOTI Pulse.

You are correct—Microsoft has blocked Basic Authentication for Exchange Online, so configuring SMTP with Basic Authentication is no longer supported.

In this case, you should configure Modern Authentication (OAuth/Microsoft Entra ID) by registering a Microsoft Entra (Azure AD) application and using its credentials (Client ID, Tenant ID, and either a Client Secret or Certificate) in the SOTI MobiControl Office 365 SMTP configuration.

Regarding your question, do not select "Negotiate" as the authentication type. Instead, configure the Microsoft Entra application and use the app credentials as outlined in our documentation below:

https://pulse.soti.net/support/soti-MobiControl/help/?V=2026.1&T=console/devices/monitoring/emailprofiles/creating_editing_microsoft_entra_application

Please let us know if this addresses your concern. If not, or if you have any additional questions, please don't hesitate to reach out.

Warm regards,

Thank you, I'm scheduling an upgrade for later this month so I can try this out.
