After about two hours I rechecked the machine, it was locked out so I logged back in and then it kicked me out and started resetting the PC. So my next question is how long does it take after sending the Wipe command that it actually starts to wipe the machine?

This is an expected behavior as the device default check in interval is 2 hrs.

To execute any action on the windows modern device as soon you send, you will be require WNS configuration to execute the command instantly.

2nd way to execute the policy instantly for windows 10 devices, you need to reduce the device check in time from 2 hrs to how frequent you want, but that will impact the DS performance.

This change can be made by modifying the devices advanced configurations > Update scheduler 

Note, this can be applied at device level or to the whole device group
