SOTI MobiControl Android Agent 2025.1.0 and above.
Android OS 10 and OS 11.
Description
Google Play has tightened enforcement of its background location policy, requiring apps that request this permission to display a clear in-app disclosure explaining its purpose. This enforcement now applies to all app types, including MDM and enterprise management apps. To align with these updated Google Play policy requirements, the SOTI Android Agent 2025.1.0 now includes a clear in-app disclosure explaining the purpose of background location access and a user consent.
What to Expect?
- A background location disclosure pop-up will appear before enrollment begins on PO devices (screenshot shown below).
- Users can:
- Accept – Enrollment proceeds, and background location permission is granted.
- Reject – Enrollment proceeds, but background location permission is not granted.
- Users need to select 'Allow all the time' so that the SOTI MobiControl Android Agent can grant background location permission.
Devices upgrading from a previous version (e.g., 2025.0.5 to 2025.1.0) will not trigger the prominent disclosure or user consent pop-up.
Prominent Disclosure and Consent Popup:
OS-Specific Behavior:
- For OS9 and below, the background location permission was not used, as it was introduced in OS10.
- For OS12 and above, since the app no longer uses the background location permission, users will not see a Prominent Disclosure or a runtime location permission request.
