Description

With Android 15, both the SOTI MobiControl Android Classic Agent (OEM-signed) and the SOTI MDM Plugin used with the SOTI MobiControl Android Enterprise Agent now require OEMs to explicitly allowlist permissions and shared user IDs in their firmware. Without this allowlisting, device enrollment and core SOTI MobiControl features will fail. This change is driven by new Android 15 security policies and must be addressed by OEMs to maintain compatibility with SOTI's device management solutions.

Issue:

Android 15 enforces strict permission and shared UID validation during app installation and execution. As a result, both the SOTI MobiControl Android Classic Agent (OEM-signed) and the SOTI MDM Plugin may fail to install or function unless the necessary permissions and shared UIDs are allowlisted in the device firmware.

Customer Action Required Before Upgrading to Android 15:

  • Customers are strongly advised to consult with their SOTI Technical Account Manager (TAM) or the SOTI Technical Support Team before upgrading devices to Android 15.
  • This is to ensure that the OEM firmware includes the required permission and shared UID allowlists, without which, critical SOTI MobiControl features may fail or be blocked entirely.
  • Devices upgraded to Android 15 without these firmware-level updates will experience issues such as:
    • Failure to enroll the agent
    • Inaccessibility to key device management features
    • Installation errors for Android plugins or Classic Agents
