Situation

Capture logs directly from an iOS device using a Mac or Windows computer.

The ability to capture logs on iOS devices helps developers and support teams troubleshoot issues and optimize performance. 

Environment

This is applicable to all iPhones and iPads

Process Description

Prerequisites:

  • iOS device (iPhone or iPad)
  • Mac computer
  • USB cable
  • (Optional) Windows computer with iTunes installed

Steps:

1. Connect your iOS device to a Mac computer using a USB cable. Ensure the device is unlocked. Select Trust when prompted.

2. On your Mac computer, launch the Console application.

3. From the Devices section of the Console application, choose the connected iOS device.

4. The logs appear in the Console application. Before reproducing the issue, clear the logs to make it easier to find the relevant entries.

Optional - Collecting console logs on a Windows computer 

Note: This method requires iTools, which is a 3rd party Tool. You can also use any other 3rd party tool. iTools only allows three free log captures, after which, it requires a license. iTools can be downloaded here: https://itools-for-windows.en.softonic.com/

1. Install and launch the iTools application and connect your iOS device to the Windows computer using a USB cable.

2. Once connected, select Console Log in the Toolbox panel.

3. The logs can now be saved.
