Process Description

Cause:

With iOS Agent version 2024.0.0, the ability to enroll devices by downloading this app from the App Store and then entering an Enrollment ID has been deprecated. This is due to Apps downloaded by the user from the App Store not being configured as managed Apps. As a result, the device agent has to be pushed to the device via an App Policy after the device has been enrolled.

Downloading the agent by browsing the app store directly on the device and running it will exhibit this behavior.

Resolution for BYOD Devices:

BYOD devices are to be enrolled using the Enrollment URL to the Safari Browser. Once the BYOD device is enrolled using the Enrollment URL, an App Policy has to be created and pushed to this device to download and install the device agent. Once the agent is pushed to the device by App Policy, it will have the "Managed" app type and it can be managed by SOTI MobiControl.

Alternatively, If the user has pre-emptively downloaded the iOS agent (with the "Installed" status), you can enforce management through the 'Set as Managed Application' action in SOTI MobiControl once the device has been enrolled via the URL.

Resolution for iOS devices enrolled under Device Enrollment Type/Automated Device Enrollment (ADE):

iOS devices enrolled with Device Enrollment Type or enrolled via Automated Device Enrollment will need to have the agent distributed via an App Policy. This ensures that the device agent is installed as a Managed App so that the SOTI MobiControl server has a connection to the agent.

Verification and Validation

Once the iOS agent has been deployed properly using an App Policy, it will have communications with SOTI MobiControl.
