Can we push application to Android BYOD work profile devices via SOTI "Profile"?

I’m trying to push some applications via “Profiles” to a Samsung Note 8 BYOD device but it seems doesn’t work. (Android for work profile. BYOD)

Are we able to push apps to a device which is managed by Android for work profile?

The applications from "Google Play for Work Applications" can be downloaded and installed without any issues.

However when I tried "Enterprise Applications" it doesn't work.

I'm trying to push the in-house applications to BYOD devices without uploading them to Google Play Store.

Are there any other methods can help me to achieve it?

Any advice and suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Hi Wayne,

Devices that are enrolled as Android Enterprise and utilize a work profile cannot receive applications that are pushed through packages.

The correct way to get the application on the device would be to use an application catalog rule. Seeing the screenshot above and your comment, you noted that it did not work. Can you please provide more information as to what happened when you added the application to the application catalog rule.

Did you receive any errors? Was the application showing in the agent under application catalog? Are you able to try using the .apk file for the application instead of a URL?

Hi KMod

Thanks for your reply.

Can you please confirm that we are not able to push the in-house application to BYOD (Work Profile) devices via SOTI profiles (APK package)?

I have been pushing the APK via profiles on my two different model Samsung devices and as the screenshot below, the results don't look good to me.

I can see the following error message from the log when it failed to install the profile:

Error message received from device (Managed Google Play Account Status:'EMPTY_TOKEN')

All the approved applications from Google Play for Work are downloaded to the devices.

When I try to push the in-house APK via Application Catalog Rule - Enterprise Applications, no matter where the resource from (URL or Import APK), everything works fine when i create the rule.

However i just cannot see the application from the Cata from the device.

And there is no error message either the device or WebConsole.

Btw, from my testing, it seems like once the device is enrolled, we can track the device from MobiControl WebConsole.

Are we able to disable the location tracking for BYOD device?

Hi Wayne,

Devices using a Managed Profile (BYOD Work Profile) are unable to receive applications that are pushed using a profile (.apk package) through MobiControl.

Upon further testing on my end, Managed profiles are also not able to download enterprise applications through the application catalog. All applications that you wish to be installed on the device must be uploaded to the Google play store and approved in order to have them managed on the device. My apologies for providing you with incorrect information in my last post.

If you would like this capability to be added to a future release of MobiControl, please contact support to submit a feature request.

Regards,
