web clip for outlook web access. Shows status/address bar.

Hi,

We are deploying outlook web-clip to both Samsung and HUAWEI devices. We are seeing a strange feature on otherwise identical devices, where a status-bar or tab is shown on one samsung device and not another. We are not seeing this behavieour on any Huawei devices.

We have tested both independent and full-screen web-clips. Same thing.

Our only current suspicion is the chrome version, which is not 100% consistent. But since the Huawei devices are displaying outlook webinterface correctly regardless of version, it seems unlikely.

It is the top-bar highlighted in red.

Any ideas what is causing this to be displayed?

The web clip is applied uniformly to the devices via the same policy? Differences between WebView version could explain that, or even differences in OS version. Are they all on the same version of Android?

There are different display modes for web apps distributed via Managed Play to the devices. Did you possibly try different variations of these configurations (minimal vs standalone vs full screen)?

https://developers.google.com/android/work/play/emm-api/web-apps#display-mode

Google's documentation calls out that it can take 24 hours for these changes to take effect, and they are also dependent on the typical Managed Play app upgrade controls (device idle, charging, etc).

Hi Matt,

Thanks!

But yes, we tried these different options. Minimal, fullscreen etc. and did not impact that specific 'tab' or whatever it is.

In regards to OS and WebView then yes, we are deploying on different OS-versions and seems also two different version of webview(whoch follows the chrome versions). But again this did not resolve anything regarding this issue. We have only seen it on Samsung, but on identical versions of WebView and OS (and device type/model) it is showing on one and not on another. Very strange indeed. And all the Huawei devices on A9 it is not appearing at all.

If you were making changes to that configuration it could take a while for those changes to be reflected on the actual devices based on how long it can sometimes take for Google Play updates to deploy. It's possible that it is configured correctly but you're still waiting on that configuration change to deploy to all of the devices. It's also possible that the different versions of Android and/or WebView support different configurability. I found the following article that at the bottom indicates that another person trying something similar ended up seeing unpredictable behavior on older Android versions like 9.

I see what you mean. I just considered the changes to be applied since the version number changes, and I could confirm that the new version number was updated on the device. But seems that can be detached from the actual change applied on MGP.

His screen contains the same option for closing the chrome window or tab, except when in full screen. I will test and give it a 24h wait with applying the full-screen then :-)

Thanks!
