Hi Francisco,

we want to install netmotion on the devices (Zebra TC77x, Android 8.1, work managed devices) with SOTI. The app needs device administrator privileges to use VPN, but it doesn't have any device administrator privilege when installed with SOTI.

Thanks

Daniel

From what I can tell from your previously posts you're running Zebra TC77s which mean you're running Android Oreo and likely having to manage the devices as Managed Devices with Android Enterprise Device Owner. If that is the case I'm not sure if you'll be able to grant the DA permission to an application.

How are you actually installing the apps? If you are installing the APK directly and not using Managed Play you may be able to Package the apk and have the permission granted silently automatically. If it is not granted by that installation process you also have the option of delivering the APK as a file in a package instead of as an APK and then using Zebra MX AppMgr with an mxconfig post-install script to have the APK installed by MX which should silently grant all app permissions.

Hi Matt,

yes we have the Zebra TC77.
We install all app directly via SOTI. So far we had no problem with that.

We created the packages with the PackageStudio.
Too bad that over SOTI the rights can not be given.

We will try with StageNow and distribute it again as a SOTI Package.

I will Report :) Thanks!

Hi Matt,

Could you send us example of the script which need to be used to grant silently DA permission?

I think this will help more than one guy!

Thanks

I had a similar task where I was trying to install stand-alone application Forticlient VPN to use on handhelds external to our home office and came up with the same walls to climb.  Android Work Managed devices do not allow you to use Google Play or install apps and run them outside of what's already made available on Zebra platform etc...

I found a solution.  I was able to grab the .APK on the web from a trusted mirror site, create a Package via Mobicontrol Package Studio and deploy it via Mobicontrol Package to the devices needed with a Profile.  From there, I had to actually switch the agent from User mode to Administrator mode before I could successfully bypass the security message that we know all to well "Action not allowed - This action is disabled... contact your organization's admin". Only then did I receive the prompt to allow installation of apps from unknown sources.  I did not test whether it's required to enable the Feature Control option "Disable Installation from Unknown Sources" but I already had this checkbox checked prior to deploying the package.  I recommend making sure you have the proper Feature Control profile deployed and test this setting if you are still coming up short after trying my method.  I am now good to go with the latest version of Forticlient VPN and did not have to jump through a bunch of hoops to get to it.
