If I create a profile in MobiControl and send it to a device, if it doesn't have Authentication added in it it breaks Mobi on the device

I am setting up ipads for children to play games on in public libraries. I am using an App policy to push all the apps to the devices. We are locking down Internet etc so I am using a Profile, using Feature Control to disable things.

We do not want passwords on the devices.  The problem is when I assign the Feature Control Profile to the device without configuring Authentication in the profile it breaks Mobi Control on the device (It works fine if I add Authentiction to the profile). When you attempt to open Mobi on the device it pops up quickly saying App not configured then closes.

Hi Sue,

authentication is just the admin password and should be (from my opinion and strongly recommend) always being provided to managed devices.

Why?

What if the devices is offline and you need to do something on it the normal user is locked not able to do (Wifi settings and so on)? You can't "unlock" the device and if also FRP is active you may even not able to wipe it. So you have a useless device finally.
As long the device is online you son't need to enter tha admin password as you can use the Macros (or a script) to switch to admin mode and back.

In your usecase i also would recommend to use a lockdown/kiosk screen (just displaying the apps you want allow to be used) which would require an authentication profile as well.

Back to the issue: Sounds like in general an investigation needed together with Soti support. Even i don't understand your "we do not want passwords on the device" i have never seen Mobicontrol agent behaving like this (but i mainly manage Android not Apple (only BYOD) and not iPads yet).

Hi Sue,

As your problem is related to iPad devices, and what Rafael said in his post are basically valid for Android devices only,  you can ignore his post.   There is no admin mode password to be set in Apple Authentication profile, nor is there any need for such when using lockdown on Apple devices.

Are your devices in supervised mode?  What are the versions and build numbers of your device firmware, of the MobiControl server and of the MobiControl device agent?

As you said your devices are for use in public libraries, are they under Apple Automated Device Enrollment (ADE), previously called Device Enrollment Program (DEP), for device-theft deterrence and automated provisioning in case of abnormal device factory reset?   This is likely needed for  if no password is to be enforced.

Thanks everyone - I worked with Soti support and oddly the issue was the new folder I had created and put the devices in was somehow corrupt and kept removing Mobi from the devices. I created a new folder to put then in and all was well!
