Chrome Update using Google Play on Zebra Devices

I am trying to update Chorme on Zebra TC7* devices.

I have enrolled the devices in an account with Google Play.

I setup Chrome and Adobe Acrobat to be updated by Google Play

Acrobat updates..... Chrome does not.

Device : Zebra TC75x

OS: Oreo 8.1

Enrollment: AEDO

Agent Version: 15.1.3.1071

Console Version: 15.3.3.1065

I have opened a ticket with SOTI and have not received any valuable information towards resolving this.

Has anyone run into this.

Thanks,

Jim

For an app to update automatically from Google Play a lot of criteria have to be met. The device typically has to be idle, in a charging state, and the app that is being updated can't be in the foreground. My guess is that one of these criteria is not being met. Since Acrobat is updating my guess is that the issue is the latter, with the app updating running in the foreground. If you are using the SOTI kiosk lockdown it renders a WebView to display the HTML lockscreen and that WebView can be powered by Chrome depending on the version of Android and whatever the WebView implementation is set to. I would theorize that Chrome is not updating automatically from Play as it is being detected as being in use.

Matt,

Thanks for the reply. I have suspected that it might be something like that. So today I rebuilt 3 devices and enrolled them. No Lockdown, On WIFI, On Charger.  Still not updating.

I had hoped that maybe you had run into this.

While I don't believe the kiosk is my problem......

I was aware that the Kiosk used Webview.... and if that is powered by Chrome.... they how would Chrome ever update? :-)

SOTI's answer was it might work if you upgraded to 15.5..... not holding my breath.

Still looking for answers..... Thanks.

More recent version of MobiControl supports a new script command, namely   \

     app_upgrade  disable | enable     <package-list>

for Samsung (MDM v 5.0+) and Zebra ( API Level 26 and MXMF v10.3+)  devices

I believe there has been some new frimware codes to act controllability of app update on such Samsung/Zebra devices.   I don't know if this also have any effect on your case, especially for the Chrome app, which might have some rendering codes shared in runtime with the system or other apps for the more recent Android versions.
