Adding Phone number as ICE

Hi

Is there a way we can add a phone number into Contacts of an Android Device and make it an emergency contact?

Scenario I'm trying to cover off is where a user cannot remember their PIN on their device and they need to ring the Service Desk for a password reset.

Or is it just going to be a case of issuing instructions to the users on how to do it themselves?

Hi

The devices are

Name: Samsung XCover 4

Model: SM-G390F.

OS: They'll start out with Android 7 but will be updated to 8

MobiControl version: 14.1.4.1693

We're at the start of our rollout so only 15 devices are currently involved over a few versions. One at 13.5.0.1577 the rest are on 13.5.1.1044, 1049, 1148 and 1273

All added as Android Enterprise

We're about to start rolling out over 2000 devices so you can safely say they will be on 13.5.1.1273 or higher.

Based on the latest tests done a moment ago,  it is not possible to use any current MobiControl script I know to add new contact to ICE (In Case of Emergency) group in the phone contact list even on Samsung Android+ agent.   Script support on Android Enterprise device agent is even worse due to limitations imposed by Google.

You might need to develop/buy a custom app to do that. The app might get desired phone/contact details using intent or from a file sent with file-sync/package-deployment rule.

Maybe it is possible with the forthcoming free javascript-based script engine,  which should be released in the coming few months,  though you might need to upgrade your server and device agents to use the new functions.

Let's see if the forum moderator from Soti can suggest any other possible way(s).

Hi Everyone,

Currently through MobiControl it is not possible to add contacts to the ICE (In Case of Emergency) group on a phone. Each device manufacturer has their own ICE configurations. For example, Samsung utilizes a setting in the contacts application, Apple utilized their Health application and google has their configuration in the settings under users, Emergency Information.

With MobiControl, you would be able to get the contact on the device using a .vcf file and a FileSync rule, but you would still require user interaction to import the contact and add it to the ICE group.

To have this functionality added to a future release of MobiControl, you can contact support and submit a feature request.

Regards,
