Hello,

We've been seeing a bug on our Android device where our app will crash after the device reboots when they are locked down. The app autostarts and it looks like there are two instances of the app launching at the same time. Has anyone else seen this before?

Our devices are Zebra MC3390R's running Android 8.1.

In response to the ticket I opened for this, SOTI has released Agent 15.4.4 with a fix:

Solution

Hi, the same crashing problem with Zebra Android 11 and agent version 2024.0.4.1056.

The plugin is installed with version 1.6.0.102

Any idea?

What type of app is it? Is it dependent on Chrome or the system WebView to function? How is it configured to auto-launch? What lockdown mode are you using - Native vs. Activity Suppression?

You mention the app crashing but also mention there are two instances of it running? Which is it? They sound mutually exclusive.

The app is a custom Android application made using Xamarin forms. The lockdown type is activity suppression. When it crashes it is both of the open intances that are crashing, and the device returns to the lockdown screen.

I have recently encountered a similar issue in one of the environments that I support. I am trying to track it down at the moment and am currently focused on the recent agent versions (15.4.x). Were your devices recently upgraded to a newer agent version by any chance?

I opened a ticket with SOTI support. I think there is a bug affecting 15.4.x agents.

Yes, the devices we've seen this on are on agent versions 15.4.2.1025 and 15.4.1.1003

Is the app trying to perform an action that may not be permitted on the lockscreen?

You could test by launching the app > when it crashes remove the lockdown and open again from the the recent apps > use the "identify_activity" script and add this in the background of your lockdown

Not to hijack this thread, but we've noticed the same behavior on Android 11 Zebra devices running on MobiControl device agent 15.3.4.1113. If our own Android application is still active when the device reboots, we try to autostart it again. But, once the device reboots and the MobiControl device agents starts, our own application gets killed when the lockdown is applied and it will autostart again.

Roughly the same behavior happens when you log in as administrator on the device, and log back out to User mode. Once the lockdown is applied, our own application gets killed.

I've tried adding the Android System Webview, Chrome and System UI tot the lockdown in hopes of keeping our application active, but so far to no avail. Upgrading the device agent to 15.4.2.1025 does not solve the issue either. Any ideas?

Thank you for chiming in. It's good to understand how much of the community is impacted by this so that SOTI can hopefully treat it with some urgency. I was curious about 15.3.x agent versions as I was testing mostly with 15.2.x and 15.4.x so your feedback is valuable. I will try some similar tests with 15.3.4 as well today. So far it appears this issue does not affect 15.2.x on Zebra A11 devices but according to your results started to appear with 15.3.4 and still exists on 15.4.1 and 15.4.2.

Hi Paul,

Thank you for posting on SOTI Pulse!

It looks like there are some issues with the new agent. We would have to collect logs in order to troubleshoot the issue. I would suggest to create a support case with us, so that we can troubleshoot accordingly.

Kind regards,
