Honeywell CT40 - android experience

Hi all,

We've purchased a fleet of CT40 (model L1N-1NC11BF) last year but we've been struggling with application refresh since then.

Those devices are enrolled as AE Work Managed from the initial steps, running on android 9.

By application refresh, I mean the user is working on our app then it just closes suddenly (no error message). I made some tests where I have multiple apps open, then switch between them and when coming back to our app it logs you out and brings you to the main screen (like a refresh).

That ''kickout'' is happening on a random basis. We've applied a system configuration on the XML file so the DOZEMode is disabled, the Provisioning mode is always ON, the ''retain app login state'' is also enabled. This only diminished the kickout.

We don't know where to aim now as we've explored so many hypothesis (from Firewall-webserver communication to app optimization by the vendor)

I'm looking for feedback from people who are using the Honeywell CT40 to see what is their overall experience and compare

Thanks,

Is the application fully crashing or is it being suppressed / closed out by the OS due to inactivity or resource limitations? It sounds like you are saying the app is actively in use when the "refresh" occurs but does that mean that the user is actively utilizing it in the foreground or are they perhaps switching between multiple open apps? What does the memory utilization look like at the time of the "crash"? Does the app possibly have a memory leak?

Hi Matt,

I believe if the OS would make it crash there would be an error message if I'm not mistaken, but the app just closes. When I relaunch it, the session has been ''killed'' and the user needs to login from scratch.

It happens when the user is actively using it, or even when he just put down the Honeywell to proceed his work on a structure, open back the Honeywell again to submit his workorder then the app can close. Sometimes they switch between another app, but that kickout happens whenever they're only working in that single app or both.

I'm looking for a benchmark app that could monitor some of the performance during the app usage to have a better scope if  the app is demanding too much or the device is managing its resources too strictly

Hi Daniel,

what Firmware are you using for the CT40 ?

Latest A9 Relase is the HON660-P-88.00.18-(0191).zip

May the Memory exception i see that is a Device with 2GB Ram & 32GB Fash Memory.

Is it a WEB Based Application what are you using?

Enrolling to Soti is with a QR Code from the Enterprise Provisioner ?

Hi Marcus

We are using A9 HON660-P-88.00.13-(0153). This was so far the most stable OS we've seen where the app have the best ''behavior''.

It's a custom android application that sends information also to a web application. RAM is 2GB but people usually work on 1 application. Our enrollment only display system apps a few others (see photo in attachment)

The devices are enrolled as work managed using afw#mobicontrol.

Hi Daniel,

when you know a Device where it happens you can activate the HXLOGGER on the Device.

That is creating detailed Log file what a Honeywell Technikan or Engeneer can check or may you see it in the Log file. (When you know the Exactly Time)

I recommand to switch to the Honeywell Enterprise Provisioner to enroll the Devices.

You can Stage you Device more detailed with the Settings by only Scanning one QR Code.

We are Staging the Devices by this way.

Actually we are running the CT40 under A10 and testing with A11 to Enroll it soon to the Devices.

Hi Marcus,

We've previously tried to retrieve logs from the device but the only thing we found is that the app closes at some point. In addition, since it's happening randomly I couldn't let the logs run for several hours as the kernel files becomes heavy on the IPSM storage.

I just tried now the Enterprise Provisioner, which brings systems configuration to the unit but after scanning the barcode it brings me to the home screen. We need to enroll those device from the initial steps with afw#mobicontrol as they are work managed, so we have the entire control with SOTI

had your Tried it with an Higher Version of Like A10.

Please Check if the MobiControl Agent also "restarts" , also do you have a Kiosk-Profile applied?

Search and read the thread from the TC8000 having issues with restarting applications (RAM issue).
