I have a non-gms Zebra TC70x just back from repair with the new display. It has android Oreo for drivers for the new display and can't be downgraded to marshmallow and enrolled as plus to match other devices.
When I enroll this device, it does it as work profile. Can I enroll this device as work owned?
Yes!
If it were me I would personally swap it to a GMS OS first and then enroll it from there so that you can at least have the option of fully taking advantage of GMS exclusive Android Enterprise features like OEMConfig and Managed Play app distribution in the future.
If you want to keep it as AOSP you can still enroll it under AEDO (Work Managed) but you need to use the StageNow method for EMM DO enrollment.
Unenroll, Factory Reset, connect to WiFi, then scan the following barcode in StageNow. Then scan/enter your Enrollment ID.
