High Battery Drain, potential location issue - MobiControl - Android

Hi,

At least a couple of our users are experiencing a sudden increase in battery drain om their Android phones (Samsung A5's). The battery drain appears to be due to MobiControl and potentially linked to it accessing location too readily. The only reason for assuming location is that the location icon is now constantly appearing at the top of their screens and when you look at what is using location mobicontol appears as using it "just now".

I've observed mobicontrol being the highest contributor to battery usage at 28% (towards the end of a working day) but the same user stated it was at 90% the day before.

We've recently upgraded our environment so I wonder if that's related.

Users have rebooted their phones but other than checking everything looked normal on the phone we haven't done any other debugging.

Any thoughts?

I'm not sure if this will help but have you got a frequent Check In interval with "Locate when device checks in" set to on?

Right-click on a folder, go to advanced configurations and select update schedule.

I am not sure why this would have changed with a MobiControl version update, but it's a starting point.

Have you double-checked the frequency which MC collects the location (this should be a data collection rule)?

Thanks 74HCT04 and sorry for the slow response!

Our "Locate when device checks in" is turned off and it checks in every 2 hours.

The data collection for location is scheduled to run every 5 minutes, this hasn't changed for over 4 years so strange that suddenly users are reporting increased drain.

With that said, these phones are 3/4 years old so maybe just coincidence that the batteries have taken a nose-dive now.

If you have any other ideas I can try them before replacing the devices.

Thanks

After the upgrade of MobiControl server and MobiControl agent, suddenly some apps are drain the battery.
