Android 11 - Missing notification icons / soft buttons

Solved

Hi all,

We've a customer who had a couple of TC21 devices sent to Zebra for repair, when it left it was an Android 10, and when it returned, an Android 11.

Before it left the time and battery percentage were displayed in the notification bar, see image with.png. But now it is not displayed, see image without.png. We've also lost the Home and Recent Apps soft buttons.

The devices are all in the same folder and so have the same lock down settings/feature control etc.

And when switching to Admin Mode (out of the lockdown) everything displayed as expected.

There a lot of lockdown configuration controls available if using the Native lockdown mode option. I would suggest looking there to see how to re-enable thinks like the Home button, recents button and, notifications bar.

Regarding the buttons: We have had the same on Nokia's. With A11 they switched to gesture mode because this is what Google wants to be default (told us from Nokia) except user has explicit chosen 3-Button navigation before.

Look into device settings if there's an option to switch from gesture mode to 3 Button navigation. I have no Zebra with A11 here so i can't check for you.

Also take a look into the Zebra OEM config app, there should be something reasonable showing battery percentage etc.

Hi Gary,

Thanks, Matt and Rafael for your post.

I completely agree with your answers. Appreciate your help.

As Rafael suggested, can you please check in the device settings and check the Navigation bar, is it selected as Buttons or Swipe gestures?

If it is selected as a Swipe gesture, you can switch to the Buttons, and then you can see the buttons in the lockdown.

If the Buttons option was selected in the device settings, then can you please check in your lockdown profile if is it selected as Native or Activity Suppression?

If it is selected as Native lockdown, you have options to enable Home Button and Recent Button in the lockdown.

Please, check the attached screenshot for more details.

If you want to display the battery percentage in lockdown, you can select lockdown type as activity suppression and you will see the battery percentage in lockdown mode.

Here are some useful links you can find some information related to this topic:

Hi Support,

Thanks for the steps, I know how to upload an image, but at time of orignal post the upload kept failing, imagine it was just a temporary issue...

Anyway, my point of the post is I have a lockdown that all Work Managed devices are using.
I only found out about this issue when a device came back from repair and had Android 11 rather than Android 10.

A10 Device:

A11 Device:

The lockdown settings.

So, as both of these devices having the same lockdown settings and the only difference is Android 10 Vs. Android 11 has something changed in Android/SOTI Agent?

If I can give anymore info here, please let me know.

Thanks,

Gary

P.S. I've checked the A11 device in the screen shot and gesture is set to 3-Button

Hi Gary,

What happens if you remove the lockdown mode for Android 11 devices? Can you see all 3 buttons in admin mode?

Please let me know.

Thank you.

I've "fixed" this issue now.

It seems this comes from upgrading Android.

Factory resetting the device and enrolling corrected the problem.

I was even able to recreate, rolling back and upgrading.

We've found something similar on a different manufacture's device when upgrading to Android 10, there was an issue in the retention of Wi-Fi networks, they wouldn't connect to previously saved networks and using Forget didn't work. After a factory reset all was back to normal for them.

Don't know if that will ever help anyone, but is what has worked for me.
