Devices associated with enrolment policy

Hi,

I want to delete an enrolment policy. However MC is preventing this as "Unable to delete policy as devices are associated with this policy"

I have no idea which devices have been enrolled with that particular policy. Is there a way to filter for these devices?

Thanks
Adam

What are the version and build numbers of your MobiControl server?

The error message can be misleading.  I am just making an educated guess about the cause of your problem. Have you checked whether this problematic enrolment policy is the DEFAULT enrollment policy of the device platform in the Enrollment Rules tab under Global Settings?  If so, assign another policy to be the default policy of the device platform, and then you can delete the problematic enrollment policy.

Hi Raymond,

We're using MC version 15.6.0.1018

I can confirm that it is not the default enrolment policy.

When attempting to delete, I get the following notification

I also had a quick look and I can see that there is a "Business Management Exception" on the management server

But I guess there is no way of filtering or finding devices based on which enrolment ID they used

Thanks

Adam

Have you downloaded various server log files (DS, DSE & MS, preferably with log level set to verbose) to get more details on the associated error?    Without looking into that for more clue, I currently can't think of any scenario in which the existence of a device can prevent an enrollment policy from being deleted.   There are so many combinations of new options that I have not tried since my latest tests.   Maybe some new options (such as those related to re-enrollment) and some unenrolled (but not yet deleted) device together cause your current problem.

BTW, I personally think that being unable to delete an enrollment policy is not a big deal as long as there are one or more working enrollment policies available for the same device platform.   After all, my usual practice/recommendation to customers is to rename an out-dated/obsolete enrollment policy with keyword such as "obsolete" to remind other administrators not to use it any more, but still leave it on the system, possibly as a record or as reference for checking options previously used when creating new enrollment policy in the future.

Hi Adam,

Thank you for posting on SOTI Pulse.

Is this an Android or iOS enrollment policy?

Did you try disabling the policy first before trying to delete?

Please ensure the enrollment policy is not enabled before trying to delete.

Hopefully this helps. Please mark the post as solution if it does or feel free to answer the follow up questions and let us know the update.

Thank you.

Kind Regards,

Hi CDMOD,

It is an Android Enterprise policy (Fully Managed).

The policy can be disabled, but still cannot be deleted, resulting in the same error as above.

Thanks

Hi Adam,

Thank you for your response.

I believe if the enrollment policy is the 1st enrollment policy created, it becomes the default policy and cant be deleted.

If you created another policy and make it default, you should be able to delete the original policy.

We can look into this more, I will recommend creating a support case.

Thank you.

Hello there

I have the same issue.

The Affected rule was created a long time after the first rule was created and isn't the default rule either.

A new policy which no devices were enrolled on, is deletable.

Best Regards

Beni

Hi There

i have the same issue on my MobiControl server.
We have a lot of Enrollment rulesand i tried to clean them but i'm unable to delete them because of this error message.

For example i have an old enrolment policy which displayed no devices linked to it. But i'm still unable to delete it, mobicontrol said that there were devices are associated to it :(
All the policies i tried to delete are not default policies.

We are working with MobiControl  2024.1.1.1058

In the Logs, MobiControl returns an error :
"Business logic exception"

If anyone got an idea to solve this issue?
