How to verify that the beam function on scanners works remotely?

Solved

Hello,

From time to time i get calls from users at our warehouses that the beam function have stopped working on our Zebra MC33xx / TC21 scanners, and i remote connect to the scanner and starts troubleshooting. The problem is that i can't figure out how to verify if i have solved the problem by my self, and i always need to ask the user to try the scanner and get back to me with the information. Is there any way to check that the laser beam works without phyisically click on the "scan" button?

Appologies if this topic have been discussed before, i tried to search but could't find any topic related to my questions.

Hey Martin,

Thanks for posting on SOTI pulse. There are ways to trigger a scan but since the devices are not with you even triggering the scan doesn't seem to be a solution for us as you can't verify the same remotely without intervention. A solution I can offer is try the Device Diagnostic Tool, which is a tool zebra offers for its devices.

Steps:

  1. Install DDT application (or may be already be preloaded).
  2. Go to Scanner Test in the application.
  3. Initiate a test - this checks if the scanner hardware is functional without needing manual trigger.

These steps can be achieved through Remote Control so I hope this helps.

This is not entirely true . You can remotely trigger a scan of a Zebra device with SOTI scripting. Verifying that the scan actually worked however is a different story and where DDT can come in.

sendIntent -b "intent:#Intent;action=com.symbol.datawedge.api.ACTION;S.com.symbol.datawedge.api.SOFT_SCAN_TRIGGER=TOGGLE_SCANNING;end;"
