Hello all,

we used soti mobicontrol on version v15.5.1, device are Zebras TC78 under android 13 with agent entreprise -> 2024.0.4.1056

I have a website on 3w, where our device try to connect.

If i open the web site with google chrome and connect with login pwd all work

If i try with soti surf (last version downloaded) and do the same i have an error like this :

The action you have request is not allowed. Host xxxxxxx   request POST

status code 403

If i do the same with our old device Zebra TC75 under android 7.1.2 and soti surf on version  v15 5 1 8 all work i can join the site and connect ..

Anyone have idea ?

on lock down i try to open the web site with this parameter but same result:

surf:// xxxxxx

Custom surfs://xxxxx

After some search, i 've find it's a request POST and we need to configure on soti mobicontrol but our version is old ..

Someone can confirm this ? or there is another solution ?

Thanks a lot

Its a 403 which means the server is receiving the request and is denying it. If it works in Chrome on the same device then my guess is that it is likely some sort of User Agent filtering server side blocking the connection. You may need to get in contact with the web developer of the business application or at least the admin of the software to see if they can determine if any User Agents are being blocked.

Dear Cristophe.

Thank you for posting on SOTI Pulse.

Thanks Matt for responding to the post, your expertise and willingness to help are greatly appreciated!

As the Android 13 introduced stricter privacy and security features that could interact with how SOTI Surf handles web requests.

In some cases, updates to the SOTI agent or Surf app are needed to ensure full compatibility.

Firstly, could you please ensure that you are using the Android version 2025.1.1 of SOTI Surf and the latest version of the Android Agent.

Secondly as User-agents are not inherently blocked when using SOTI Surf ; instead, blocking occurs if a website's firewall or filtering rules are configured to deny specific user-agent strings that SOTI Surf presents, or if you've enabled website content filtering within SOTI Surf's configuration. To resolve this, configure SOTI Surf's User-Agent setting to "Default," "Desktop," or "Chrome" to match the intended site, or adjust website filtering rules to allow the SOTI Surf User-Agent.

Why User-Agents Get Blocked

  • Website Filters:

The target website might be set up to block specific user-agent strings, including the default or desktop ones used by SOTI Surf.

  • SOTI Surf Website Content Filtering:

You may have configured website filtering within SOTI Surf to block certain categories of content, and the site you're trying to access falls into one of those blocked categories.

  • Conflicting Profiles:

If your device has multiple SOTI Surf profiles assigned, conflicting settings could be applied.

How to Troubleshoot and Fix the Blocking

  1. Change the User-Agent in SOTI Surf:
    • Go to your SOTI Surf profile configuration.
    • Select a different User-Agent option:
      • Default: Uses SOTI Surf's built-in user-agent.
      • Desktop: Mimics a desktop browser.
      • Chrome: Renders web pages like the Google Chrome browser.
    • This change tells the website that a different browser is accessing it.
  1. Adjust Website Filtering in SOTI Surf:
    • In the SOTI Surf profile, find the website filtering settings.
    • Ensure that the categories for the website you are trying to access are not blocked.
    • You can add the website to an exception list or whitelist to allow access.
  1. Check for Conflicting Profiles:
    • If the device has multiple SOTI Surf profiles, check if conflicting settings are causing the block. The most restrictive settings will apply.
