SOTI XSight Installation Requires Media Foundation Feature

When installing SOTI XSight on a Windows Server, you may encounter the error "SOTI XSight requires the Media Foundation Feature to be enabled in Windows to proceed with the installation."

This can happen on any version of Windows Server. In this example, we are using Windows Server 2019 Standard.

• Any version of SOTI XSight
• Any supported version of Windows Server

1. Open the Windows Server Management Dashboard and select Add Roles and Features.
 

2. Read any important notes in the beginning of the wizard. Select Next.
 

3. Select Role-based or feature-based installation and then  Select Next.
 

4. Select the server that SOTI XSight is being installed on and then Select Next.
 

5. Leave the Server Roles as they are. Select Next.
 

6. In the Select Features screen, select Media Foundation from the list and then select Next.
 

7. Confirm the selection of Media Foundation, and enable Restart the destination server automatically if required checkbox. Select Yes to the prompt about restarting the server if needed.
 

8. Media Foundation will then be installed. A restart typically is not required. You can close this screen.
 

9. After the Media Foundation feature is installed, SOTI XSight can be installed normally (if all other prerequisites are met). If the same error occurs while attempting to install, reboot the server.
