Using File Sync on Android devices Solved

I'm still new here. I've got 60 Android devices (Ulefone X7 Armor) enrolled and now need to store some files on each device. These are typically manuals and work policy documents which all users need to access. File Sync seems to be the tool for this, and I have managed to configure the Content Library, upload some files to it and create a File Sync rule targeted on specific devices. However, I am confused about where the files land on the device. If I use the default %sdcard% path, I get an immediate error in the device logs - "File synchronization failed". If I try %shareddata% then the logs claim that the files have synced but I have no idea how to find them. The MobiControl 'content' tab for the devices says that there are no device files, no matter which destination path I chose. The File Manager for the devices reports that there is an sdcard directory on the device, but it doesn't contain any files. The log from the device says: 2023-07-12 21:26:41.000|File saver - /storage/emulated/0/filename.pdf - All Documents_v_1_c2d77f0b-d95c-4fdc-a4f8-9297d749061c.pdf.mrx.tmp|E|DO|[net.soti.comm.asyncfile.f] Exception while writing to file|java.io.FileNotFoundException: /storage/emulated/0/filename.pdf - All Documents_v_1_c2d77f0b-d95c-4fdc-a4f8-9297d749061c.pdf.mrx.tmp: open failed: EACCES (Permission denied) Once I have discovered how to store the files reliably, I need to understand how I get to them. Some of the devices have a standard user interface, and others have a lockdown screen. So for the latter I need to be able to create a link in the lockdown menu, and for the former I need to be able to access them straight from the home screen. Should I be able to see the files in the Content Library? MobiControl version 15.6.3.1018 (Cloud). I have read every support article I can find, but I'm none the wiser so I hope someone can help.

    VMU Screensaver Solved

Hello, I have configured Zebra VC8300 devices running Android 11, managed through Soti MobiControl, with the Enterprise Home Screen (EHS) installed. The issue I'm facing is that when employees go on breaks, they often do not turn off the VMUs, causing the batteries to drain unnecessarily. To address this, I would like to implement a screensaver that activates when the VMUs are not in use and when they are disconnected from the power source (as they are connected to a lift for charging). I couldn't find a specific option to manage screensavers in Soti MobiControl. Is it only in the Android OS where the parameter is configurable ??  Thank you in advance for your assistance. Mat

packages/V2 API : limitation on PackageVersion

Hello, Using API packages/V2 works fine but setting "PackageVersion" in payload seems to have limitations in naming. Some like 2.3.0-SNAPSHOT-1, 2.3.0S123456, 2.3.123456789012 fails with same error: { "$type": "ErrorDetails", "ErrorCode": 0, "Message": "Impossible de créer un nouveau package.", "Data": [ "La version du paquet contient des caractères non valides." ], "HelpLink": null }On console, when uploading a pcg built with name like 2.3.0-SNAPSHOT-1, it works fine and name is ok.  Why this limitation ? Could it be removed ? And, what is the rule for naming? a regex ? Thanks for your help

Force 100% Volume on Samsung Active 3 Solved

We are operating Samsung Active Tab 3 with Android 13 enrolled into SOTI via Android Enterprise. We want to force 100% Volume and don't want to allow End-Users to modify volume controls. What we tried: Disable "Allow Device Volume" via Feature-Control Profile => Blocks the user inputs as expected, but infortunately also sets the volume to 0% Send Script "writesecuresetting  -sys  volume_system_speaker 15" to set the setting periodically => Unfortunately doesn't work on my Samsung Active 3 Other Ideas: Use or programm an app that peridically sets the volume via "android.media.AudioManager" Do you have other ideas how we can solve this? Maybe there are existing apps that already solve that problem. Kind Regards Max Großmann

    New user account not working

I've set up three new admins in our MobiControl portal but the accounts won't let them log in. After setting up the accounts do I need to enable them somewhere? Not sure if it makes any difference but we are cloud based, not on-prem.

Accessing 365 Apps on SOTI enrolled device

Has anybody been able to access company resources VIA Company Portal (365), mainly OneDrive? This feature is said to work and SOTI has walk throughs but I still can not be shown a working demo from SOTI or a customer of SOTI. I've come here because I've been asking for months and no one can produce a working model. I have SOTI and our 365 tenant synced and when I enroll a device into SOTI the device shows up in Azure AD but we still can not access OneDrive. We end up in a login loop. I even made a conditional access policy and went as far as setting the policy to allow any device access as long as its in Azure AD. I've tried this on atleast 6 new devices, all different models, all new right out of the box. Its frustrating because I was told it would work before I paid for a year subscription and now that I paid I get the run around for months. Does it work or does it not work, really straight forward question.

How to import list of devices from excel in searchbar in order to search for multiple devices at once? Solved

Hi, I have to add multiple devices in different virtual groups in order to assign different files from content library to each group. But in order to do that, I have to manually paste each serial number, then type "or", than again paste next SN, type again "or" and so on.. Any way to paste all serial number in the search bar at once? Devided with some special symbol... Or import data from file in the search bar? Or directly import devices in groups in the SQL tables? I have around 600 devices, and this is a lot of copy and paste... :)

Enterprise Wi-Fi profile no longer applying to certain devices Solved

Hi all, I have a problem with an existing Android enterprise Wi-Fi profile which I created a year or so ago, it pushes the hidden SSID network with the RADIUS certificate (which expires 2027) to all "manager" devices across our entire company. An authentication profile is deployed with some other bits and pieces in another profile as that is a requirement for the certificate. The new SSID has only been available at our head office over the last year, and our 8 other offices were going to get the enterprise SSID at a later date. For the past year this profile has been working fine at our head office and hasn't been changed in that time either. The enterprise SSID configuration has been copied across our other 8 sites over the last month via Aruba Central and I have seen most enrolled devices connect to it automatically as they already had the profile in place from when it was implemented a year ago to all manager devices. This should allow all manager devices to join even if they are at a different location to normal. And that should be the end of it! I started noticing a few devices not joining the hidden SSID automatically when other devices in the same location were joining fine... and I thought perhaps the managers had their Wi-Fi switched off on their device, so I pushed a SOTI script to enable the Wi-Fi radio... no luck. I also found that some devices had automatically made the users aware of an open "Guest" SSID in the same location we have available, and they tried to join that instead but it's a captive portal which requires a logon so does nothing, it in fact breaks their internet connection. "Forgetting" the Guest SSID forced some devices onto the correct SSID. But some were still not joining the required SSID. In an attempt to force all devices off of the Guest SSID in case that was the problem, I created a new Wi-Fi profile for the Guest SSID and applied it to my device (which was already happily on the correct hidden enterprise Wi-Fi) and I then revoked the profile in an attempt to make it "forget" the Guest Wi-Fi. This worked as expected but for some reason forgot the enterprise SSID that I want manager devices to be on at the same time. Strange I thought, so I revoked that enterprise Wi-Fi profile and reinstalled again. SOTI thinks it's applied, the device thinks it's applied (within the SOTI MobiControl profile list), the device gets the certificate, but the SSID network does not join. I would expect to see it in the "known Wi-Fi" list, but nothing appears. I've removed it from the group, applied it again, restarted, forgotten all network settings and applied it, recreated a brand-new profile to apply the same SSID again, nothing. I cannot deploy this hidden enterprise SSID that hasn't changed or this Wi-Fi profile which also hasn't changed to this device that has happily been using it for the past year. I have the same issue with my colleague in the same office, we re-created the exact same steps, and he cannot join this Wi-Fi now either. I have checked 2/3 other users that I was struggling to see on the correct SSID and can confirm via SOTI remote control that they also do not know of this SSID.  I enrolled a brand-new device and that picked up all of the configurations as expected, so it does work... but is just being selective! I spoke to SOTI support and asked them to restart our cloud instance or services as it seems like a niggle rather than a configuration error/issue. No luck. We were running MobiControl 15.6.0 and I requested they upgrade to the latest version 15.6.4 because our devices are running the latest MobiControl agent from the Google Play Store and I thought they may be some incompatibility mismatch where the agent has upgraded faster than the MobiControl instance. After the MobiControl upgrade, still no luck. I still have the case open with SOTI but I’m at a loss, I have literally no idea why it won't work for certain devices. No config changes have been made with MobiControl at all! It has been happily working at one site for a year and additional sites were seemingly working as I was adding them and now my device at head office is playing silly buggers, it just seems to be certain devices. Not a specific Android version or type of device, random! Any ideas welcome! If someone had the same issue and a fix, even better!

Android work profile not allowing app to be installed

I have an in-house app which we deploy as an apk via a profile. I have 2 profiles - one for work managed devices and one for work profile devices. The managed device profile works fine, always installs the app without a hitch. But for the BYOD (work profile) devices, the app usually doesn't install. I have one successful deployment (after agreeing to the installation of an app from an unknown source) but two other phones refuse. The devices have a feature control policy in place with "Allow Installation From Unknown Sources" turned on, and, on the devices, I have also allowed apps from unknown sources to be installed by MobiControl. Nothing seems to work - the app installation request sits in a 'pending state' on the portal for 15 minutes or more, before finally reporting 'failed'. The log merely states "Package (name) version (version) failed to install. File IO error on device. Check Storage/Permissions. As a test, I tried downloading the apk using a browser - I then get the message about installing unknown applications and have to authorise the browser to install. This does work, but only helps me a bit, because I won't easily be able to deploy updates using that method. I'm certain this is a permission issue, but can't figure out what needs changing. These are new device enrolments by the way. Hope someone can help. Thank you James (Mobi Control Cloud 15.6.3.1018)
