Application says "App installed from MobiControl" even after removing package

Hello,

Sorry to post here again in such a short time but we are having lots of issues right now. We have open tickets with SOTI support as it is. It started with Google Gboard breaking on a lot of Android+ Zebra TC56 devices this past week, which led me to push out a SOTI package with the newest version of Gboard that fixed the crashing. (I extracted the apk from a device we had here, that I manually updated from play store). This was probably a bad fix but I didn't know what else to try since you can't force Google updates in a timely manner and no one was able to use the devices because of the crashing keyboard.

This fixed the issue but NOW we have all our Zebras using an insane amount of data daily, nearly 500 MB per device in a few days which adds up quickly. The culprit is GBoard (listed in data usage on Android). I'm guessing Google is trying to auto update but since I have SOTI forcing the apk already, it can't.

Here is my problem... I removed the Gboard package I pushed, and sent a SOTI uninstall script ("uninstall com.google.android.inputmethod.latin") followed by a reboot. This did not actually remove the application. Under Android Gboard settings it still says "App installed from MobiControl". This would probably be blocking Google auto updates. The only work around I can find is to go to Play Store (sign in first) and uninstall Gboard, then update it.

My question is: is there a way to revoke MobiControl's ownership of this app somehow so it can return to be managed by Google Play? Or is there a better solution to this mess? I appreciate any and all responses. Thanks.

Are the devices enrolled and managed with Android Enterprise and Managed Play Accounts?

No. They are managed with Android+ not Enterprise (they are running Android 7.1).

For quick fix I could suggest adding google keyboard to blacklist and installing zebras enterprise keyboard. Enterprise keyboard has some advantages in my opinion.

Thanks for the suggestion. We may end up doing that in the future. For now, everything is working fine and according to SOTI the app itself should still auto-update regardless of the installation method. Technically the issue is not resolved because I haven't found a way to change the installation method to Google Play from MobiControl, aside from doing it all manually which is not a viable solution for hundreds of remote devices.

I appreciate the responses anyhow.
